The outbreak of the War of Israel-Iran leaves Chinese diplomacy in the Middle East to an impasse

Beijing said he was ready to act as a peacemaker in the climbing of the conflict between Israel and Iran after having succeeded in negotiating a rapprochement between the regional enemies of Iran and Saudi Arabia in 2023. But the war also highlighted the gap between the diplomatic ambitions of China in the Middle East and its rather limited options for the involvement in the current conflict.
