Jannik Sinner wins the China Open after defeating the American teenager Lerner Tien in straight sets | Tennis news

Jannik Sinner won his second title China Open in three years and the third victory of the tournament in 2025 with a sets online in a Lerner Tien match in Beijing.

The world sinner No. 2 had lost four of its last five finals of the ATP tour, all against Carlos Alcaraz, with the only triumph of this coming sequence when he beat Alcaraz in Wimbledon.

The Italian beat Tien 6-2 6-2 in what was the first final of the ATP of the American adolescent and, on this proof, and not his last with the young sinner emptying the scenes, but he could not convert one of the breaks he sculpted.

Sinner, 24, broke Tien in the game’s opening match, which started with the young double defect, but his opponent gained confidence as the competition progressed.

Speaking later, the champion said to Tien: “You show all the season what talent you are. Continue, you play incredible tennis. I hope we can share moments like this in the future.”

SINNER – which now has 21 career titles, including 18 in a rigid area – beat Daniil Medvedev to win his first China Open in 2023 before losing against Alcaraz in the last 12 months later.

Alcaraz did not play in the China Open this year, instead of presenting – and winning – the Japan Open, before retiring from the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai in order to “rest and recover” after having treated “physical problems”.

Sinner will appear in Shanghai, entering the second round against Tristan Schoolkate of Australia or Daniel Altmaier in Germany later this week.
