UPW names Meg Lanning as new captain
Lanning boasts a prolific record as captain in the WPL, having led DC to the finals in all three seasons. The Australian now has a big task on his hands in helping UPW get their hands on their first WPL trophy. The team has undergone a full-fledged overhaul with the team deciding to retain just one uncapped player in the form of Shweta Sehrawat ahead of the WPL 2026 mega auction.
“It is a true honor to be named captain of the UP Warriorz. As the WPL enters its fourth season, it has been incredible to see how the league has evolved, the quality of cricket, competitiveness and the emergence of exciting new talent continues to raise the standard each year. This is a talented group with a strong mix of international experience and Indian players, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead. We will work hard together and give each other every chance to lift the trophy” Lanning said.
UP Warriorz will begin their WPL 2026 campaign by taking on Gujarat Giants on January 10 in Navi Mumbai. The final will take place on February 5 in Vaodara.
