Samson, who captained Rajasthan Royals for several seasons, is said to be determined to move on following internal disagreements with the management. The report mentions that several trade options were explored, but the two franchises are now close to reaching a mutually beneficial settlement focused on Samson and Tristan Stubbs. The South African hitter impressed for DC in IPL2024 and remains one of the most promising power hitters in the league.
Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, have reportedly asked for another uncapped Indian player to accompany Stubbs as part of the deal. However, Delhi Capitals refused to add additional cricketers, citing their plan to retain key members of their squad. Nonetheless, the progress of negotiations suggests that a formal announcement could be imminent, with only minor financial and retention clauses to be discussed.
Interestingly, the Royals had also expressed interest in KL Rahul earlier in the trade window, but Delhi immediately turned down the idea of parting ways with their main hitter India. Rahul, who was one of their consistent contributors last season, is still part of DC’s long-term leadership vision.

Before Delhi Capitals became a leader, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were considered the main contenders for Samson’s signature. However, negotiations between RR and CSK broke down after Rajasthan reportedly demanded either Ravindra Jadeja Or Giikwad Travel in exchange, an offer quickly rejected by the Chennai management. With that, the Delhi option has regained momentum, and all indicators now point to Samson returning to his first IPL home.
If completed, the exchange will constitute one of the largest pre-auction operations in recent IPL history. Samson’s change could significantly reshape the Capitals’ batting line-up, as Rajasthan look to rebuild around Yashasvi Jaiswal. As the 2026 auction approaches, this blockbuster trade could set the tone for a high-voltage season of all-star mixing and new beginnings.
