Brentford condemned Manchester United to a 16th record defeat in the Premier League of the season when they retained a late fight to win 4-3 in western London on Sunday afternoon.
The second goal of Mason Mount in his career United turned out to be a madly misleading procedure. Brentford rightly deserved an advance of 2-1 before the interval that they extended with two other goals before the last 15 minutes of an increasingly unilateral competition.
Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo produced two moments of individual shine to recover a certain respectability for visitors in the final stages, but these efforts did not do much to dilute the bitter reality of the position of 15th place of United.
How the game went
Brentford boss, Thomas Frank, spoke for the pure and simple minority when he praised visitors to Ruben Amorim. “It’s a team that is actually really structured,” insisted the Danish coach. “They defend themselves very well, they know what they want to do offensively and defensively.”
A united team guaranteed to record the lowest count of the points of the Premier League in the history of the club threatened ephemerally to respect the high bill of Frank on Sunday afternoon.
It was a wonderfully clear sequence that sent a swishing through the red and white stripes of the line halfway after 14 minutes. Alejandro Garnacho rushed to Kobbie Main’s perfectly weighted Dink on the top before shooting a cut in the wake of the Mason mount at a smaller goal for his first goal in 13 months. Curiously, his last one was also at the Brentford community stadium.
However, this coordinated glow represented a distinct anomaly compared to the rest of the competition. Brentford invaded visitors, writing dark blue shirts in their own third defender while bombing the penalty box.
A long throw in the 27th minute finally found its way to Mikkel Damsgaard, whose stabbed effort made a sort of deviation from Luke Shaw on the back of the net.
Kevin Schade rewarded the blatant domination of Brentford with an imposing head at the rear station six minutes later. The central defender of United Matthijs of Ligt was subject to the lawn after colliding with Yoane Wissa, but the game was allowed to move forward. Brentford has fully benefited from the reduced defensive levels of United.
Amorim was adjusted during the interval, withdrawing Shaw and the terminal confused Patrick Dorgu from the shooting line. After trying a single blow on the entire 45 -minute opening, United had two in as many seconds within five minutes of the restart.
However, it was the hosts who hit again after the interval. Despite the bizarre allegations of Frank, United turned out to have all the defensive solidity of a Blancmange while Schade was heading in his second in the afternoon to 70 minutes. The German striker was one of the three Brentford players queuing in a rear station kept by the solitary central defender of United, Tyler Fredicson.
With the wind in the Brentford sails, Wissa crowned a magnificent passage of passage which has zig-zag in the heart of the increasingly hypothetical rear guard of United to do it 4-1 with more than 15 minutes remaining.
Garnacho was one of only three players to keep their starting place before the crucial semi-final of the Europa League on Thursday. Shaw was not so lucky in the 27th minute, while Damsgaard’s stabbed effort deviated from his chest and in the net.
The defender subject to injuries did not seem to have control of the ball even when he bounced on his body towards the goal of United. At the end of a 45 -minute disorienting opening, Shaw was left swirling like a lonely suitcase on the airport luggage carousel with the captain arranged on his strap.
Amorim insisted after the match that the defender had been hung at the interval to preserve him for the semi-final of the Europa League on Thursday against the athletics club, although this excuse did not covered a disastrous outing for a game always rethinking to Full Fitness.
