A new Russian attack on kyiv involving hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles highlights the “true attitude of Putin and his entourage,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday, as he prepared to meet President Donald Trump.

The nighttime blitz in the Ukrainian capital left at least one dead and 27 injured, local authorities told The Associated Press. It came as Zelensky was scheduled to meet with Trump on Sunday in Florida, where he said he would share a 20-point peace proposal to end the conflict with Russia.

“Another Russian attack is still underway: since last night there have been almost 500 drones – a large number of ‘shaheds’ – as well as 40 missiles, including Kinzhal. The main target is kyiv – energy facilities and civilian infrastructure,” Zelensky wrote on Saturday morning on one of them.”

“Many questions have been raised in recent days: what is Russia’s response to the end-of-war proposals proposed by the United States and the world? Russian representatives engage in long talks, but in reality the Kinzhals and the ‘shaheds’ speak for themselves. This is the real attitude of Putin and his entourage,” Zelenskyy added. “They do not want to end the war and seek to take advantage of every opportunity to cause even more suffering to Ukraine and increase their pressure on other countries in the world.”

Zelensky also said on Saturday that “if Russia turns even the Christmas and New Year period into a period of destroyed houses and burned apartments, ruined power plants, then this unhealthy activity can only be combatted with truly strong measures.”

“The United States has this capacity. Europe has this capacity. Many of our partners have this capacity. The key is to use it,” he said.

Trump, before his meeting with Zelensky, said he would make the final decision on a peace deal to end the conflict.
