Zach Cregger could give weapons the best character a prequel

When Gladys meets the director of the Maybrook primary school, Marcus Miller (Benedict Wong) to discuss his “nephew” Alex (Cary Christopher), she explains her role in his life and why her parents cannot be there, saying that they fell ill with “consumption”. Marcus is confused by history: “consumption” is not a disease whose people have to worry about the days when we travel through the Oregon path. Gladys changes the subject quickly, but the involvement is clear: it was much, much longer than the rest of the characters in “weapons”, and this is where the potential of a prequel of Gladys becomes really apparent.

In a place in the $ 38 million stadium, “weapons” had a much larger budget than “Barbarian”, then really exploring Gladys age has probably never been in the cards. But by separating into his own feature film, a prequel to Gladys could allow Cregger to explore a new genre in the “weapons” universe: The Western. After all, if Gladys is old enough to make cultural references to the border days of the old west, a prequel film could explore what she was doing at the time. Armed with the sense of humor and the penchant of Cregger for thrills, a film in this sense would be much more unique than your average horror monitoring may ever.

Taking such a dramatic turn to left may seem risky as a result of “M3gan 2.0”, which bombed at the box office after having shot a similar change in genre. However, if you want to see how a prequel to Gladys could work, you must not look further than “Pearl” from Ti West, a nightmare soaked in Technicolor who reveals the dark origins of the titular character – played for the first time by his star, Mia Goth, in West “X” – while working as a full -fledged autonomous film.

That Cregger descends this path, or that a prequel to Gladys occurs, is always in the air. Congger is already working hard on his next film, the last blow in a film “Resident Evil”, and also works on two other projects: “Henchman”, a shoot in the DC universe, and “Flood”, a original science fiction script.

Cregger, as he said, seems aware of the way “everything in this company changes in a penny”, (released) joking that his point of view on “Resident Evil” could turn around and kill any interest in a prequel of Gladys. But if that should happen, let’s just say that there would be an army of “weapons” fans ready to get started like a missile to get Cregger out of the director’s prison.

“Weapons” is currently playing in theaters.
