Florida Gaming Control Commission destroys 147 illegal slot machines

The Florida Gaming Control Commission and Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey recently destroyed 147 illegal slot machines, as seen in a video posted to X from the official FGCC account.

These seized machines were recovered from several illegal gaming sites in Brevard County, and this comes just days after 22 illegal gaming machines and just over $25,000 were seized from three Port Orange businesses.

A total of 20 slot machines and two coin pushers were seized during this latest operation, and everyone involved received a court summons.

“The Florida Gaming Control Commission is partnering with other law enforcement agencies to stop illegal gaming in our state,” said Alana Rimmer, FGCC Executive Director.

“If companies are unclear about the legality of their machines, they can contact the FGCC at any time for instructions and clarification.”

In another Facebook post, Sheriff Ivey said, “What we have today behind us are all of the different gaming machines and devices that we have seized over the last 18 months here in Brevard County. This is just a small portion of all the machines that we have seized, but also multiple arrests, and 17 search warrants have been executed over the last 18 months.”

In August this year, 250 illegal machines were also seized by the FGCC, along with approximately $200,000 in cash. Although these offenses can result in criminal charges, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier wants these penalties increased.

Florida Attorney General Wants to Increase Penalties for Illegal Gambling

“Right now, people can make millions through illegal gambling operations and end up with a slap on the wrist, a misdemeanor,” the attorney general said in a video shared on X.

“It doesn’t send the right message and it’s not enough of a deterrent to stop this illegal behavior.” »

Over the past six months, Florida has successfully cracked down on illegal gaming by seizing hundreds of illegal slot machines and cash from establishments that do not hold gaming licenses.

As evidenced by the latest news regarding the destruction of 147 machines in Brevard County, there is still much work to be done in the Sunshine State moving forward.
