Ted Cruz: The Democratic Party is in “civil war” after the “radical left” took power

Sen. Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, discusses President Trump’s desire to end the filibuster, why the move was necessary, and more on “Kudlow.” Editor’s note: This has been updated to correctly reflect Senator Cruz’s position in favor of the filibuster.
Sen. Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, said there is “clearly” a civil war within the Democratic Party in an interview with “Kudlow,” also revealing his predictions about which leading Democrats could run for the White House in 2028.
“Nobody is fighting on the other side,” Cruz told Fox Business’ Larry Kudlow. “The radical left has taken over.”
The Texas senator argued that New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani — a self-described democratic socialist — was directing the energy within the Democratic base.

“All the so-called mainstream Democrats are rushing to support him,” he said. “That’s where all the energy is. That’s where the passion is“.
Cruz also shared his predictions for potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidates, casting doubt on one candidate’s electability.
“I think right now the two favorites for the Democratic nomination for president in 2028 are AOC and Mamdani. I think that’s where – he’s not even eligible – but who cares? The law doesn’t mean anything to them. That’s where their party is.”
Cruz sharply criticized Mamdani, calling him a “communist jihadist” in a post on X on Thursday.

The Texas senator accused the Democratic Party of drifting into what he described as “bat-crazy” territory, pointing the blame at a prominent Democrat.
“Nancy Pelosi and her willingness to see everything through a partisan lens or her hatred of Donald Trump is a large part of the reason the Democratic Party has gone completely crazy.,” » said Senator Cruz.

In response to Pelosi’s recent announcement that she would not run for reelection, Cruz accused the California lawmaker of helping radicalize Congress.
“When she was Speaker of the House, she helped turn House Democrats into a viciously partisan and extreme group,” he explained. “She presided over the Democratic Party to the far left, including support for open borders, including abolishing the police.“
