Why Disney more slowly kills Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar

Although this is not a big surprise, a new report revealed that Disney + has damaged a lot to Marvel studios, “Star Wars” and Pixar Brands in recent years. The boom in streaming was accelerated in 2020 largely in response to the COVVI-19 pandemic, which closed theaters around the world. The Mouse House had already launched Disney +, but the circumstances have forced the company to double. It may have helped to obtain lightness in the streaming game at the start, but it was done at the expense of some of the biggest brands in the studio.
A new report by The Wrap has plunged deep into the subject, revealing the Marvel cinematic universe, the “Star Wars” franchise and the animation power Pixar all suffered following Disney +. This is a complicated problem but, in short, Disney + created too much of what was once a rare thing and made it accessible to everyone in the comfort of their house. Thus, the films of these brands suffered, while even Disney + emissions have experienced a sharp drop in audience.
Marvel Studios, in particular, had a difficult year in 2025, with “Captain America: Brave New World” ($ 415 million worldwide) and “Thunderbolts *” ($ 382 million worldwide) having disappointed financially. Even “The Fantastic Four: New Steps” fell sharply during its second weekend, despite a power station on an A-List team and gained excellent reviews. Even the chief of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has become very frank about the impact that Disney + had on the MCU formerly in the ballooning:
“Expansion is what devalued [the Marvel brand]. It was just too much. It was a big business push. And it doesn’t take too much to push us to leave. There was a mandate that we were put in the middle. “”
The rush towards the prioritization of Disney + cost a price
Other films such as “Eternals” and “The Marvels” have also suffered a lot. “Captain Marvel” made more than a billion dollars worldwide in 2019, while “The Marvels” was the cheapest film of all time, barely released $ 200 million. Feige stressed that Ms. Marvel made her debut in Disney + Shows, which led the public to believe that they might not know what was going on, so they chose to jump it. The same can be said to be “Thunderbolts *”, which has seen many television characters cross on the big screen.
“Given the quality of the Marvel Disney + outing was incredibly mediocre, it has led to the whole brand down and diluted its creation. People are now making fun of it”, a producer who wanted not to be named to packaging. Indeed, the reception to shows like “secret invasion” harmed the MCU. And because it is a connected universe, it allowed people to drop or wait more easily to broadcast recent MCU films at home once they arrived on Disney +.
This Disney + problem extends to “Star Wars”, but in a different way. “The Mandalorian” helped launch the streaming service, and it was a huge success out of the door in 2019. That same year, “The Rise of Skywalker” made $ 1 billion at the box office despite all its perceived defects. During the years since then, however, we have not obtained a single film “Star Wars”, but we had shows like “The Book of Boba Fett”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, “Skeleton Crew” and “The Acolyte”, which did not manage to mark the second seasons, do not lack expectations.
Meanwhile, the very well received “Andor” increased his audience throughout his race, but he still failed to match “the Mandalorian”. This makes it difficult to justify the budget of $ 650 million in the “Star Wars” series, even after the fact.
Disney tries to do a correct course – but is it too late?
The film franchise “Star Wars” was a rare thing for many years, so each time a shooting in a far -off galaxy, far away, it was special. Now, however, Disney + has carried out live action projects based in this much more common universe. It remains to be seen how it will have an impact on property films in the future, but “The Mandalorian and Grogu” will test it next summer.
As for Pixar, Disney sent several of the original films of the animation studio (in particular, “Luca”, “Soul” and “Turning Red”) directly to Disney + in the first years of the Pandemic era. This, in turn, gave people the impression that these theatrical events which must be exposed were now “free”. And while “Inside Out 2” made an astonishing $ 1.6 billion last year, the original films of the studio are now powerfully in difficulty. This year’s “Elio” alone has made less than $ 140 million worldwide and will end as a cheapest film in the studio of all time, making it a commercial disaster for Disney. Likewise, Pixar’s Disney + output, like the original series “Win or Lose”, failed to cross significantly.
The CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, previously admitted the rush to prioritize Disney + “Focus and diluted attention” for Marvel and Pixar. Consequently, the company has tried to get properly, having practically not made big budget films, directly to the broadcast in recent times. For this reason, the Disney Remake live “Lilo & Stitch” ended up bringing more than a billion dollars to the box office after having become a theatrical version instead of going directly to broadcast this year. Like a lot of reading, it is undoubtedly remembered, the studio’s “Moana 2” did almost the same thing after having passed a streaming series in a theatrical functionality last year.
This leaves us with big questions to answer. Is it all too little, too late? Can the Disney course properly correctly and put the MCU on the right track? Can it reduce its Lucasfilm release and make the “Star Wars” property feels special again? And is there a chance that an original pixar film does big business at the box office once again? Time will tell us, but we can only hope that the answer to all these questions is “yes”.
