Who will win the crown?

The moment has arrived.
The winner of Yahoo Finance’s 11th annual Company of the Year award (Walmart (WMT) last year) will be revealed live on the Opening Bid Unfiltered podcast Monday at 7:30 a.m. ET. You can listen to it on Spotify, Amazon and Apple Music. Or watch it live on YouTube and here.
It won’t be me in front of a big black mic, dressed in casual clothes and giant padded headphones. I’ll be going one-on-one with one of the most influential people in the tech industry today – that’s how we do it here.
And that’s all I can say for now, my friends! But I’m going to throw you these little bones.
The battle for our Best Newsroom award comes down to two: Nvidia (NVDA) led by Jensen Huang and Sam Altman’s OpenAI (OPAI.PVT).
If Nvidia wins, it will be the first time a company has won our award twice – we gave the award to the then-primarily gaming chip company in 2016. If OpenAI wins, it will be the first time we have given this award to a private company.
So the stakes are high! I can’t wait to know who you think won and why. Contact me on X at @BrianSozzi or on LinkedIn.
These two companies are at the center of AI commerce this year. (Sorry, it’s not you, Oracle (ORCL), despite what you presented on the earnings call this week.) And each could easily be considered the winner.
Each company has undeniably dominated the market talk for investors in 2025 – sometimes at the same time. When these companies announced big deals or their famous CEOs made optimistic comments about AI, stocks jumped. When they said or did something careful, stocks took a hit.
Second, both companies have entered into numerous new transformational deals with large public companies. Nvidia has entered into the capital of Intel (INTC)! That still seems crazy to me, although former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger tells me it’s not as crazy as you might think. OpenAI has seemingly been making giant deals every week, including one that could make it a major shareholder in Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
The Yahoo Finance team is excited to bring you this special day of awards coverage on Monday. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
