WhatsApp, the widely used instant messaging platform from Meta, introduces a new feature that will allow users to scan documents directly using their camera for smartphone from the application.

The functionality is currently in its test phase and is accessible to a selected group of beta users in the latest beta Whatsapp update for Android 2.25.19.21, available for download in the Google Play Store.

The next “Digitization Document” option, integrated into the document sharing interface, promises to rationalize the process of scanning a document without the need for third -party digitization tools.

When selecting the option, the application immediately activates the phone camera, offering a live overview to help users accurately position the document for optimal analysis.

This new addition is designed with the flexibility of the user in mind, offering two separate capture methods to meet various needs and preferences.

For those who want more precision and control over the scanning process, a manual capture option is available. This allows users to determine the exact moment on which the photo is taken, proving beneficial in situations requiring positioning or meticulous adjustments for ideal lighting in order to ensure high quality analysis.

On the other hand, the automatic mode rationalizes the process by detecting the edges of the document by itself and slamming the image without user input, offering a faster experience when the time is limited.

After capturing the image, whatever the selected mode, WhatsApp immediately treats it and converts it to PDF file, ready for instant sharing, whether in a private cat or a group conversation.

The entire analysis and conversion work flow takes place locally on the user’s device and operates the integrated Android API for document capture.

The resulting file remains stored on the device until the user decides to send it via WhatsApp.

The new feature will be deployed to even more people in the coming weeks.
