What happens to your data if you stop paying for cloud storage?

You get 5 GB of one -nedrive cloud storage space for free with a Microsoft account, and if you cancel your subscription, that’s what you are coming back to. According to Microsoft, as long as you have on this limit and you do not pay, you will not be able to synchronize new files. The existing files will remain, but in a reading state alone. You will also not be able to send or receive emails in Outlook.com, or team messages with attachments.

Microsoft gives you six months to decide what to do with the files of your OneDrive account, after which it “can” (there is this word again) decides to delete the files you have on Microsoft servers. Once deleted, warns Microsoft, they left forever. If you need these files, you need to download and move them elsewhere (OneDrive customers for Windows and MacOS can help here).

Unlike Google, Microsoft is treating its Cloud messaging storage and storage services separately. You get 15 GB of cloud space with Outlook for free and 100 GB of space if you pay $ 1.99 per month (in addition to the remaining 100 GB). You cannot send or receive an email if you exceed your limit, so you will need to clean your reception box to start using it again.

Dropbox

You can synchronize your Dropbox files on Windows or MacOS using desktop customers.

We cannot cover each cloud storage service in this article, but here is one more: Dropbox. Dropbox users get 2 GB of cloud storage space for free, then paid plans start at $ 9.99 per month for 2 to space.

If you store more than 2 GB of files in your Dropbox, then stop paying, nothing happens at these files: they will simply remain as they are, in the cloud and on your synchronized devices. However, you will not be able to add new files, and all the changes you make locally in the files will not be synchronized with the cloud.

There is also no expiration date on your files – they will simply remain as they are permanently. Probably Dropbox wants to encourage users to register for another paid plan somewhere down, how much you can resume where you stopped.

You can use Dropbox customers for Windows and MacOS to synchronize cloud files to your computers, and from there to other backgrounds and backup services. Once the files are moved or deleted from your Dropbox folder on your computer, they will also be wiped from the cloud.
