West Ham handed chance to sign ‘insane’ Wilson upgrade

Although there were some early wobbles, it would be fair to say that Nuno Espírito Santo’s time in the West Ham United dugout has largely gone well so far.

The Portuguese coach took the East Londoners out of the Premier League relegation zone and achieved impressive results against Newcastle United, Manchester United, Everton and Burnley.

One of the players who appears to have benefited the most from his arrival is Callum Wilson, who has returned to his goalscoring form.

However, that might not be enough in the club’s eyes as West Ham are now linked with a striker who would represent an upgrade on the Englishman, one who has already finished in the style of Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham linked with Wilson upgrade

The transfer window reopens in less than a month and, as is the case with most other clubs, West Ham are already being linked with a plethora of exciting players.

For example, Toulouse’s highly regarded English defender Charlie Cresswell has once again been tipped for a move to the London Stadium, as has Nuno’s former number one Jose Sa.

However, while both players would certainly make a positive impact at West Ham, neither could be described as an upgrade on Wilson, unlike Santiago Giménez.

Yes, according to a recent Spanish report, the Hammers are among several clubs who have been offered the chance to sign the AC Milan striker next year.

If the east Londoners are keen to accept the offer, whether on loan or on a permanent deal, they will need to step up, as the report also states that Leeds United are the team with the most concrete interest in the player.

This could be a complicated transfer for West Ham to pull off, but given Giménez’s ability and goalscoring record, it’s one they should be fighting for, especially as he could be an upgrade on Wilson and has arguably finished like Bowen in the past.

Why Giménez would be an upgrade over Wilson

There are several reasons why Giménez would represent an upgrade over Wilson, and the first is their respective production.

There is no doubt that the Englishman is outperforming the Mexico international in that regard so far this season, scoring four goals in 12 games, compared to one goal and two assists in 11 games.

However, when you step back and look at his form last season, and especially when he was playing in the Netherlands, it becomes clear that the former Feyenoord star is the more dangerous striker.

For example, while the former Newcastle United star scored just once in 22 matches last year, the Resistencia-born striker scored 22 goals and registered six assists in 38 matches.

Additionally, the previous season saw the Coventry-born ace fare quite well, scoring ten goals and providing one assist in 26 games, but his potential competitors still did better, scoring 26 goals and providing eight assists in 41 games.

With all this in mind, it’s clear that Milan’s “crazy” striker, as U23 recruiter Antonio Mango calls him, is the far superior goalscorer, and given that he’s left-footed, there’s a Bowen-like way to how he often sends the ball into the net.

Now, in addition to his production, the 46-cap Mexican ace also has age on his side, nine years younger than the 33-year-old England veteran.

Finally, the £78,000-a-week game-changer also has fitness on his side, as he has only had one season in his career in which he missed more double-figure games through injury, compared to Wilson, who had seven.

Ultimately, while it may not be the club’s top priority, West Ham should sign Giménez as soon as possible, as he could boost their attack.
