Wendy and Eddie Osefo react to arrest, sheriff denies celebrity perks

After law enforcement arrested them on Thursday, Wendy And Eddie Osefo would have been released from prison and would be at home. The couple’s team released a statement Friday after reports emerged of double-digit fraud accusations leveled against them. At a separate press conference on Friday, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office also addressed the accusations. Officials strongly denied that the celebrity status of Osefos, the “Real Housewives of Potomac,” would give them any advantage in this matter!

Wendy and Eddie Osefo’s team shares statement after prison release
Hours after news of their detention made headlines, his press secretary, Austin Thach, issued a statement on behalf of the Osefos. Thach confirmed to The Shade Room that Wendy and Eddie are home. Us Weekly reported Friday morning that the couple had to post $50,000 bond each to be released. The publicist added that the couple is holding on with the support of their loved ones. According to their statement, the “RHOP” stars plan to spend their day in court fighting the fraud case! At this time, it is unclear whether they will be tried together in court and whether they share legal representation.
“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits. They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from their friends, fans and colleagues,” Thach said. “The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court. At this time, they respectfully request privacy while they focus on their family and the upcoming legal proceedings.”
Carroll County sheriff slips ‘fake housewife’ shadow into press conference
Meanwhile, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has no intention of taking it easy on Wendy and Eddie Osefo. At least it seems to be the energy Sheriff Jim DeWees brought to Friday’s press conference. He pointed out that Wendy and Eddie’s celebrity status as OGs on “Real Housewives of Potomac” won’t grant them special treatment in their fraud case. Social media sparked reactions when DeWees appeared to tease Wendy’s TV placement with a “fake housewife” comment.
“No, I don’t think we would have handled it any differently,” the sheriff said in response to a reporter’s question. “I mean, they were claiming it was a large amount of money that was stolen…and if we think it’s a false report, we would investigate it the same way. So no matter if she’s a Real Housewife, a Fake Housewife or whatever she is, we would treat it the same way no matter who she was.”

Osefos fraud case recap
Wendy and Eddie Osefo were convicted on 15 and 18 counts respectively. They are accused of falsely reporting a burglary to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office last April, claiming to have stolen luxury goods like jewelry, designer bags and clothing. After reporting an alleged break-in, the couple submitted insurance claims to at least three companies, according to Us Weekly. They cited financial losses for items they still had in their possession or had already returned to stores for a full refund. The Osefos are accused of imposing fines of more than $400,000 in insurance claims alone. Investigators found additional evidence after executing a search and seizure warrant Thursday. However, they also pointed to evidence contained in emails, social media posts and crime scene notes from last year.
