Weird!! WBBL match abandoned after heavy roller crushes stray ball in field

One of the oldest and most prestigious women’s T20 franchise leagues in the world, the WBBL has marked the most bizarre moment in its history. In a match between the Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes Women, the match had to be called off midway after the roller drove a stray ball into the track.
WBBL 2025 has already marked many bizarre incidents and extraordinary situations during matches related to the Adelaide Strikers. However, the latest one will go down as the most memorable thing to happen over the years.
Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes WBBL match canceled after bizarre incident
The Adelaide Strikers did a pretty commendable job with the bat, as Madeline Penna batted throughout 20 overs of the Strikers’ innings and guided them safely to 167. However, the innings break turned out to be one of the most memorable moments in cricket.
Your daily dose of cricket!
During this period, a ball was missed and ended up under the heavy roller as it rolled across the field. With the force of the roll it could be seen, as Hobart captain Elyse Villani said, that the ball had crashed into the track and so the play had to be called off.
“Tahila McGrath and I were invited to see the hole, and it was quite big, and the depth, as you can imagine, was the size of the outside of the ball. It was quite a big hole,” she said after witnessing the bizarre incident at Karen Rolton Oval.
OK…a WBBL match was just abandoned halfway through because the big roller accidentally drove a stray ball into the field during the inning break.

Adelaide Strikers matches witnessed third cancellation of WBBL season
Australian all-rounder Tahila McGrath leads the Adelaide Strikers as captain in the Women’s Big Bash League. Under his leadership, the team performed poorly with 9 points in their pocket.
Having already played 9 matches this season, Adelaide have only been able to muster 3 wins, with three of their matches being eliminated. But luckily for them, every missed match before the last one seemingly didn’t seem to be in the Strikers’ favor.
The first of these incidents occurred when the Stars only needed 4 balls to make a match, but the match was called off; otherwise, the Strikers would have lost via DLS. Secondly, when Thunder only needed 3 runs from 13 balls, the match was called off again due to rain, which arguably was not heavy enough to interrupt the match.
Hobart Hurricanes top WBBL points table
Adelaide Strikers opener Penna has done a very good job with the bat, and with small contributions from Tammy Beaumont and Patterson in the innings, they could post a target of 168 ahead of the in-form Hurricanes.
Nat Sciver-Brunt remained the pick of the Hurricanes bowlers while Molly Strano, Nicola Carey and Linsey Smith each picked up a wicket. Currently, Hurricanes are leading the points table with 15 points from their 10 matches with 7 wins and 2 losses.
