A surprise death on the character in the We were liars The second episode seems to set the tone for the rest of the season while more and more Sinclair family secrets are revealed.
The second episode, entitled “Wrap it in a pack of lies”, opens with cadence (Emily Alyn Lind) Wake up in a hospital bed after the mysterious accident at the end of summer 16.
“Here is what I remember, I shared a perfect kiss with Gat on the beach in June and I woke up in the hospital in August,” Cadence to the public. “Everything that happened between the two is lost in the black hole in my brain injury.”
A montage of the cadence recovery shows her pain medication, cutting her blond hair and dilingy in dark brown. The character’s voiceover reveals that she has an amnesia triggered by her traumatic cerebral lesion.
“The liars did not tell me all year round, the pills only work for headaches, but to heal the sorrow, I need to know the truth,” continues the voiceover. “I have to return to Beechwood.”
Cadence convinces his mother Penny (Caitlin Fitzgerald) To bring it back to Beechwood for the summer of 17. When they arrive on the island, things have changed. The home of his grandparents was completely redone – and somehow looks like a prison – while Carrie (Mame Gummer) is punctuating beech at night following his insomnia.
The episode is told through flashbacks between summer 16 (before the accident) and summer 17 (present) while Cadence begins to recover his memory after finding the liars.
In summer 16, Cadence discovers that his kiss with Gat (Shubham Maheshwari) means that he deceived his girlfriend at home. The two enter a huge fight, which ends with the cadence in tears and drinking with Johnny (Joseph Ass).
Current cadence in summer 17 finds a letter that Gat wanted to send to his girlfriend – but never did. This leads to a confrontation between cadence and his mother on the reasons why the family keeps secrets about their accident.
“Have I tried to kill myself, that night in the water?” Is that why you tell everyone not to talk about it with me, because you are afraid, I will do it again? Request CADENCE. Penny tells him that this is not what happened, but still offers no answer.

Back in the summer of 16, the Sinclair family celebrates Father’s Day and the moms are in competition for Harris ”(David Morse) Love with their gifts. When he does not choose a favorite from Penny, Carrie and Bess (Candice King), he revealed that there is a missing sister.
“Let’s be real, we have no chance. None of us will be his favorite daughter. We grew up, we have become messy, and Harris hates disorder, so his favorite will always be the girl who has not grown up,” said Carrie, alluding to a potential death and sister.
The three women are seated with their mom, Tipper (Wendy Crewson), outside for the rest of the evening. When they get up to go to bed, it seems that Tipper fell asleep – however, she does not wake up.
“Beechwood is a fairy tale in our sand castles, we ignore signs of problems, we pretend our pain,” says the voiceover of cadence when Tipper’s body is discovered. “But all the fables do not end happily, some stories have no hero at all. Sometimes all the king’s horses and all the king’s men never put the pieces again. Sometimes the castle collapses.”
