Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to reunite with Indian team ahead of 2nd Test against West Indies

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are all set to join the Indian national cricket team ahead of schedule ahead of their much-awaited return to action. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were last seen in action for India during their triumphant ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign in March 2025.

They were also impressive in IPL 2025 for their respective teams, and even Kohli won the first trophy with RCB. They were also preparing for the England tour, but suddenly announced their retirement from Test cricket just before the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Now, they are only active in ODI cricket and aim to bid goodbye to the international stage at the ICC World Cup 2027. However, India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar has made it clear that there is no guarantee if the iconic batter will be a part of the ICC World Cup 2027 squad.

Well, Virat and Rohit have been named in the ODI squad for the three-match series in Australia, and they need to prove that they are still two of the biggest hitters in the format to continue to challenge for the mega-event. The Men in Blue will play a total of 27 ODIs before the ICC World Cup 2027.

Amid uncertainty over how many matches the former India captain will play before the global event, some good news has emerged ahead of the second and final Test against the West Indies, which begins on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi.

In fact, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will join the national team in Delhi ahead of India’s much-anticipated tour of Australia later this month. New ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will also join his former captains in the national capital.

The Indian team is expected to depart in two batches on October 15, with one group flying in the morning and the other in the evening, depending on travel logistics and ticket availability.

Kohli and Rohit are expected to arrive in New Delhi either a day before departure or on the same day. India will first land in Perth to kick off a three-match ODI series against Australia on October 19, followed by a five-match T20I series.

A BCCI source reportedly told PTI, “Virat and Rohit will land in the capital either on the day of departure or the day before.”

India-Australia ODI and T20I series schedule

The second ODI will be played on October 23 at the Adelaide Oval, followed by the third and final match on October 25 at the iconic SCG in Sydney. On the other hand, the five-match T20I series between India and Australia will begin on October 29 at the Manuka Oval.

The second and third matches will take place on October 31 at the MCG and November 2 at the Bellerive Oval respectively. The fourth and fifth matches are scheduled for November 6 at the Gold Coast Stadium and November 8 at the Gabba respectively.

Notably, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir invited the entire Test team to a team dinner at his Rajinder Nagar residence in Delhi ahead of the final Test against the West Indies.
