US Open: Jack Draper promises not to hold back to Flushing Meadows despite an insignificant arm injury | Tennis news

British n ° 1 Jack Draper has promised not to hold back to US Open this year, despite an insignificant arm injury that prevented him from a simple competitive for several weeks.
Draper revealed that he had played with pain in his left arm which was diagnosed like bruises, forcing him to miss Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati.
He is back on the scene of his race at the semi -finals 12 months ago, but his opening match against No 127 World 127 Federico Gomez – Second at the Louis Armstrong stadium on Monday – will be his first since his defeat in the second round against Marin Cilic in Wimbledon in early July.
“I first started to feel it in the middle of the clay season,” he said. “I felt like my arm closed a little when I was hitting the forehand and on the service too.
“It’s a little more progressive. Then, on the grass, it became quite painful. I did not know what I was dealing with. After the grass, I had it checked. I had bone stress, bone bruises, in my humerus on my left side.
“This is one of those where, if you continue to play with it, it could become very serious. I had to take a while. By saying that, it was not so bad, because I could obviously do many other things physically. It was not as if I had to stop completely.
“Difficult to have injuries, but certainly one where I had to take care of myself.”
After winning his first Masters tournament in Indian Wells in March, Draper was the tour of the tour, and he is optimistic, the injury will not affect his chances in New York.
“I train a lot last month, physically, I really pushed myself hard, and it makes me feel mentally really good about my skin,” said the 23 -year -old.
“I am really excited to be back here in the United States and return to competition, doing what I like to do best.
“It is an injury that takes time to heal. It could give me a little discomfort, that’s for sure. It’s not something that I will go out on Monday and feel like you hold back at all.”
Draper has at least already played competitive points at Flushing Meadows this year after going to the semi-finals of the mixed doubles altered alongside the American Jessica Pegula.
He hopes that it will prevent any rust, saying: “It was a bit perfect for me because I hadn’t had competition, I had not felt this feeling of playing in front of people and this kind of thing for a while.
“It was a really positive experience for me, and I feel much sharper to have played it rather than may have a week of training.”
Can the draper near the gap against the sinner and the Alcaraz?
Draper also feels Jannik Sinner, world n ° 1, and his rival Carlos Alcaraz remain sequences in advance on the hunting pack. The duo won 15 of the last 16 tournaments in which they both played.
“I think these guys are the most consistent, the most, you know, their level is definitely above the rest of us right now,” he said.
“But there are many players who want to continue to improve, want to continue to develop to get to where they are.
“I think that nobody likes to see the players being very dominant. What they did, what they brought to sport, the matches they played, like the Open of France and Wimbledon – as a player, it is very motivating to see.
“I am obviously very happy for them because they are both incredible guys, but at the same time, I do not want to have the impression that we simply let them do it. I want to continue to continue, continue to improve, and I hope that soon we will compete with them.”
