Two killed in Russian attacks against Ukraine before any talks in Turkiye | Russia-Ukraine War News

Russia has confirmed that it would send a delegation to Istanbul, but kyiv has not yet accepted the proposal.

Russian drone and missile attacks against Ukraine have killed at least two people, according to officials, while Ukraine ordered the evacuation of 11 other villages in its Sumy region bordering Russia.

Russian troops launched around 109 drones and five missiles across Ukraine on Friday and night, Ukrainian Air Force said on Saturday, adding that three of the missiles and 42 drones had been destroyed and that 30 other drones had not achieved their goal without causing damage.

The attacks occurred in the middle of uncertainty as to whether kyiv will participate in a new series of peace talks early next week in Istanbul.

During Russian attacks on Saturday, a child was killed during a strike on the front -line village of Ddynka in the Zaporizhia region, and another was injured, said the governor of Zaporizhia, Ivan Fedorov.

“A house was destroyed. The shock wave of the explosion also damaged several other houses, cars and outbuildings,” wrote Fedorov on Telegram.

A man was also killed by Russian bombings in the Kherson region of Ukraine, wrote Governor Oleksandr Prokudin on Telegram.

Moscow did not comment on any attack.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the Sumy region of Ukraine said that they evacuated 11 villages in a range of approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Russian border.

“The decision was made for the constant threat to civil life following bombing of border communities,” said the regional administration on social networks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said some 50,000 Russian soldiers had raised in the region in order to launch an offensive to carve out a buffer area inside Ukrainian territory.

Ukraine’s army chief Oleksandr Syrskii said on Saturday that Russian forces concentrated their main offensive efforts on Pokrovsk, Totrets and Lyman in the Donetsk region, as well as in the border area of Sumy.

Syrskii added that Ukrainian forces still have a territory in the Kursk region in Russia – a statement that Moscow has denied several times.

The evacuations and attacks occurred only two days before a possible meeting between kyiv and Moscow in Istanbul, while Washington called on the two countries to end the three -year war.

Russia has confirmed that it would send a delegation, but kyiv has not yet accepted the proposal, warning that the talks would give results unless the Kremlin provided its conditions of peace in advance.

Zelenskyy said on Saturday that he was still not clear what Moscow was planning to achieve at the meeting and that so far it was not “very serious”.
