Addressing journalists on Thursday, Trump said that he would “love to avoid conflict” and suggested that the United States would like Israel to draw plans aimed at hitting Iran’s nuclear sites while Washington and Tehran are continuing their negotiations.
“I want to have an agreement with Iran. We are quite close to an agreement … I would prefer an agreement by far,” said the American president.

However, Trump said that an Israeli attack “could very well occur” without determining whether the United States would participate or help strikes.
His comments came a day after the United States pulled some of his diplomats from the region and put his embassies on alert in the midst of reports of a possible Israeli attack on Iran.
“There is a chance of massive conflict,” said Trump.
“We have a lot of Americans in this area. And I said: We have to tell them to go out because something could happen soon, and I don’t want to be the one who did no warning, and the missiles fly in their buildings. It is possible.”
Later Thursday, the American president reiterated his commitments to diplomacy with Iran. “My whole administration was responsible for negotiating with Iran,” he wrote in an article on social networks. “They could be a big country, but they must first abandon the hope of obtaining a nuclear weapon.”
Nuclear talks
US and Iranian officials have organized several series of talks since April to conclude a nuclear agreement to avoid war.
Trump’s declared position is that Iran will never be allowed to obtain nuclear bombs.
Tehran denies in search of a nuclear weapon, but she emphasizes that it has the right to enrich national uranium – a process of modifying the atom of uranium to produce nuclear fuel.

It is not known if Israel has the military power to destroy Iran’s nuclear installations, built deep underground and inside the mountains, without direct involvement of the United States-the billions of dollars in military aid that the United States gives Israel each year notwithstanding.
Since the start of the war against Gaza in October 2023, Iran and Israel have exchanged several series of attacks.
