Tottenham want to sign FC Porto sensation Samu Aghehowa

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign FC Porto attacking sensation Samu Aghehowa.

Despite significant investment to strengthen their attack in recent seasons, Tottenham still lack firepower in the final third. The north London club have been unable to resolve the striker problem and are considering signing another number nine in the near future.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Spurs are considering making a move for Samu Aghehowa. Thomas Frank’s side have scouted him in the past and could push for the signing of the 21-year-old striker, who has done wonders for FC Porto.

The Spanish striker has only gone from strength to strength since joining Portuguese side Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024. His consistent performances have put him on the radar of several big clubs.

O’Rourke’s view on the Spanish striker’s future

Speaking about Aghehowa’s future on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said: “I’m sure he’s [Aghehowa] someone who is possibly on the list of Tottenham and other Premier League clubs.

“Chelsea [came] very close to signing him there are a few transfer windows before the player decides to stay.

“Then Newcastle put him on their list during the summer window as they studied potential replacements for Alexander Isak before signing Nick Woltemade.

“So I think he’s a top young player, 21, Spain international. It’s no surprise that Tottenham and all these other big Premier League clubs are looking at him.

“He’s a player with huge potential and he could really become one of the best strikers in Europe if he continues his rise. I think that’s why these Premier League clubs are looking at him.

“He has a release clause in his contract at Porto of around £86million, which is a big price for his head.

“But I think if he continues what he’s doing now, develops as a player and realizes his potential, it could be a decent sum for someone who wants to take him.

“[For] Tottenham, again, the number nine is a problem for them in some ways. Solanke has had injury issues so far this season.

“Then Richarlison obviously fitted in and did quite well there, but there was continued speculation regarding his future.

“Porto will do well to hang on to him [Aghehowa] in the next two transfer windows as I am sure this interest will persist.

Tottenham prepares raid on FC Porto

Tottenham are one of the clubs keen on his signature. The north London club are desperate for a quality number nine who can help them take the next step. Despite shelling out a significant fee to sign Dominic Solanke, the former Bournemouth star was unable to make an impact.

He has struggled to stay fit and has been on the sidelines since their 2-0 win over Manchester City in August. Although he was only expected to be out for a few weeks, Solanke was forced to undergo surgery, keeping him out for months.

Apart from him, Randal Kolo Muani is yet to return to full fitness, while Richarlison has an injury history and has been linked with a departure. As a result, Spurs are considering signing a world-class striker during the winter window.

They are keen to have Samu Aghehowa in their squad and are considering making a move for the 21-year-old, who is protected by an £86million release clause.
