Tottenham to tie down Souza signing this week after Conor Gallagher deal

Tottenham are set to complete another deal this week following the sudden signing of Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid, according to reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold.

Spurs lure Aston Villa to complete Conor Gallagher deal

Gallagher has actually been on the Lilywhites’ radar for some time, but they were forced to step in and hijack his move to Aston Villa, which comes as a big boost for under-fire boss Thomas Frank.

Yves Bissouma is out of contract this summer, although the club has the option to extend for another year, and the Malian international does not appear to be part of its long-term plans.

Rodrigo Bentancur also underwent surgery for a hamstring problem which is expected to rule him out for three months, leaving Frank very short of options in midfield.

Spurs are yet to decide whether they will also trigger the option to buy clause in Joao Palhinha’s loan deal with Bayern Munich, so it is clear as day why they have decided to emphatically join the race for Gallagher.

The former Chelsea captain was thought to be close to a move to Villa after Unai Emery’s side reached a verbal agreement with Atlético, but Spurs have reportedly dazzled their Premier League rivals by offering around £8.5 million more.

This, combined with Gallagher’s eagerness to join the north Londoners, saw Spurs finally sign the box-to-box midfielder who was also a long-time target for Ange Postecoglou (Matt Law).

Thomas Frank is under pressure…

The 25-year-old is currently undergoing medical tests ahead of his £34million move to Spurs, with Gallagher looking to earn more minutes and challenge for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

Gallagher’s arrival will not only bring dynamism to Frank’s midfield, but it will also do wonders to fill the club’s dwindling local quota.

Alongside Gallagher, Tottenham have also reportedly agreed a £13m deal for left-back Santos Souza, although confirmation of his signing is taking a little longer than expected.

Now, Gold has provided a new update on social media.

Tottenham to ‘link’ Souza signing ‘Thursday’ with arrival tomorrow

According to the journalist, Souza is expected to land in England tomorrow and Tottenham could block the Brazilian’s signing, pending formalities, on Thursday.

The highly-rated young defender, celebrated for his attitude and versatility by South American football pundits like Tim Vickery, is also pushing for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the World Cup this year – which says a lot about him.

Even though Souza has limited experience at the top level, his performances for a Santos side that battled relegation last season really caught the eye.

He will be a welcome addition to a Spurs team that is quite lacking in long-term left-back cover for Destiny Udogie, with Ben Davies their only natural alternative on that flank.

After Gallagher and Souza, the onus is surely on Tottenham to bring in a new striker and provide Frank with the extra creativity he so desperately needs.

Antoine Semenyo had already rejected Spurs before the January window opened, with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche among the Plan B options reportedly being considered.
