Tom Blyth Is Ready For More Romantic Comedies After People We Meet On Vacation (Except)

Tom Blyth loves moving from darker roles to leading a romantic comedy.

“I think I was just ready to do something fun,” Blyth, 30, exclusively told the outlet. Us every week about playing in People we meet on vacationwhile attending the premiere of the film on Tuesday January 6. “I’m ready to do something light.”

Before playing Alex in the romance based on Emilie Henrifrom the bestselling novel of the same name, Blyth starred in The hunger games prequel movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents as a young version of the villainous Coriolanus Snow. Blyth also played the title character in the western series. Billy the Kid and most recently appeared in the 2025s In civilian clothes.

“I had done a lot of serious stuff back to back and I was kind of ready to do something that was going to uplift my soul a little bit,” he explained.

Unlike his previous projects, People we meet on vacationpremiering on Netflix on Friday, January 9, is a light-hearted story of unlikely best friends, Alex and Poppy (Emily Bader), who become traveling companions. But as life becomes more hectic, their dynamics change and their feelings begin to intensify.

While preparing for his first-ever romantic comedy role, Blyth decided to channel the genre’s classic leading men.

“I think we can take ourselves very seriously sometimes. And I’ve certainly been guilty of that at times,” Blyth said. Bader, 29, echoed similar sentiments regarding the romantic comedy’s return to the pop culture zeitgeist.

“This genre means a lot to a lot of people. I think we can ask something from every genre of film. And I think the rom-com genre can be complex and have real character development and make you feel a lot of things,” Bader said exclusively.
