‘Family Matters’ star arrested on felony warrant

Did HE do THIS?! That’s probably what fans of the ‘Family Matters’ star are saying Darius McCrary are thinking right now after finding out he’s in serious legal trouble. The actor, who made us all laugh as Eddie Winslow on the beloved ’90s sitcom, was arrested near the US-Mexico border in California. He is currently resting in a San Diego prison. While the details aren’t clear yet, one thing is for sure: Things look complicated for McCrary off-screen.

Winslow charm can’t fix this mess
According to TMZ, the 48-year-old was arrested Sunday by the U.S. Border Patrol in a fugitive arrest related to an out-of-state criminal charge. Additionally, the California penal code cited in the case allows officers to make an arrest without a warrant if the individual is suspected of being a fugitive wanted in another state. McCrary remains behind bars in San Diego with no bond or release in sight, according to court records. His team told TMZ the arrest stemmed from an arrest warrant issued out of Michigan after he allegedly missed a court date over unpaid child support.
A representative for McCrary responded to the arrest in a statement. They told Us Weekly that the actor was stopped at the border because “He was partnering with a real estate developer who was building houses for the homeless in Tijuana, Mexico.»
“Darius was doing a good deed when he discovered he had an arrest warrant at the Mexican border for a missed court appearance,” the statement said. “The missed court appearance was for an ongoing child support dispute, while Oakland County sent the notice to appear to Darius’ PO Box, giving him only 3 days to appear in Michigan court. Unfortunately, Darius had Covid and so did not check his PO Box until the day after his court date. However, he immediately notified the judge with a doctor’s note of Covid diagnosis. “
The jokes flew, but so did the side eyes
Phew: When TMZ broke the news, their comments section lit up fast. People were all withdrawing Family matters joke in the book, with punchlines flying left and right. But while some laughed, others showed concern for Darius, hoping he would get his act together – but not without a few sideways glances from people who swear he’s still stuck in a pickle.

These are not the “family matters” we remember
This arrest marks only the latest chapter in McCrary’s ongoing legal drama. A few years ago, the actor found himself in a sticky situation for not paying his child support following his divorce from ex-wife Tammy Brawner. The two men went through a lengthy legal battle that finally ended in 2019, but McCrary’s problems didn’t end there. As part of the divorce agreement, he was ordered to pay $1,366 per month in child support, but that appears to be another point of contention. In fact, McCrary even filed a restraining order against Brawner. He alleges she “terrorized” him and turned their home into a “drug den.”
Additionally, in 2023, McCrary also claimed that he was forced out of his own home due to alleged abuse from Brawner – physical, verbal and mental – and that she even threatened to take his dog if he didn’t pay. Talk about a family affair It’s anything but cute. Fans who remember McCrary as the charming and funny Eddie Winslow on “Family Matters” might be shocked to see that the actor’s off-screen life took such a tumultuous turn. From sitcom star to legal drama, McCrary’s journey reminds us that sometimes life is much more complicated than the world of television.
