Tim Burton documentary series streaming this week

Tim Burton is a constant in the hearts of the general public thanks to successes like Edward Scissorhands And Nightmare before Christmas. After a fragile 2010s, the 2020s were much more lenient with Wednesday And Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and now the filmmaker is receiving a documentary tracing his decades-long career.

Directed by Tara Wood, who has previously directed documentaries for Richard Linklater and Quentin Tarantino, the four-part film Tim Burton: Life online The series promises never-before-seen images and illustrations of Burton’s past and present works, as well as “untold stories from those who know him best.” Interviewees include longtime Burton alumni Johnny Depp, Michael Keaton and Helena Bonham Carter, as well as more recent additions like Jenna Ortega. As seen in the trailer, the series promises to explore everything from its Disney beginnings to Batman, Dumbo, And Wednesday.

Life online is an independent production and, as such, is built on a custom “direct-to-fan” platform that makes it “one of the largest independent streaming launches ever,” according to the press release. This method “gives audiences unprecedented access to Burton’s world – uncut, unfiltered and brimming with never-before-seen footage, interviews and artwork.” Wood later told Forbes that the documentary series was “a fan project.” [and] the artists, the freaks, the dreamers and the misunderstood – those who have always seen themselves in Tim’s world. It’s a love letter to Tim and creative freedom.

If you are a Burton fan and want to watch, Life online drops on Thursday, October 23 for $40, or $24 for a five-day rental. There will also be a premium version for $75 that includes, according to Deadline, “hours of bonus content.”
