TikTok announces shared feeds and collections features

TikTok just announced some updates that should make the app a little more social. There is something called Shared Feed, which is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a stream that friends and family can watch together, but at different times.
This feed is shared via direct messaging and displays relevant content to everyone involved in the chat. TikTok says it’s a “new way to discover content together.” It consists of a daily selection of 15 videos generated by TikTok activity.
These streams are shared via invitation and participants can leave the chat at any time. There’s also a new dashboard that lets viewers view their sharing history and other metrics. The Shared Feed tool will be rolled out globally in the coming months. This looks like something Instagram started offering earlier this year. Instagram is usually the one to copy TikTok, so it’s a nice change of pace.

TikTok also announced something called Shared Collections. It’s like the aforementioned shared feed, but for recorded content. The tool allows users to collect, organize and share groups of videos, with TikTok citing that people could use it to share playlists, local restaurants to try and, of course, products to buy.
All you have to do is record a video, create a shared collection, and send that list to someone else via direct message. Users must follow each other to access any of these lists. The tool is now available worldwide for people over 16 years old.
Finally, TikTok is rolling out themed greeting cards that can be sent in direct messages. They will be available worldwide later this month.
