OMV Petrom discovers a new natural gas tank in Sineni, Romania

OMV Petrom, based in Romania, discovered a new natural gas reservoir in Spineni, marking a significant development in the energy sector of Southeast Europe.
Located about 70 km northeast of the southwest town of Craiova, the discovery was made at the exploration well of 1 Sineni, which was drilled at a depth of approximately 4,800 m.
The exploration well has confirmed the presence of natural gas and condensate, with production tests supporting the results.
Well tests have indicated a production potential of 180,000 m³ of natural gas and 25 m³ of condensate per day.
This results in a total of 1,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day from the discovery well, which means a substantial addition to the energy resources of the region.
Cristian Hubati, member of the OMV Board of Directors Petrom Exploration & Production, said: “In 2025, we plan to invest 5.8 billion Lei in exploration and production, with almost half allocated to onshore operations, while advancing the Neptun offshore depth, a strategic project that requires large -scale investments.
“We continue to invest to contain the natural decline of production from mature areas and to pursue new opportunities in field near our existing operations.”
The perspective was initially identified using 3D Spineni Seismic Survey data, which was led in 2022 in the X Craiova block.
The test phase has established the commercial viability of the discovery, allowing the approval of a development plan to operate the tank.
During the exploration phase of this Oshore project, OMV Petrom invested around 15 million euros ($ 17.6 million).
The discovery of this new natural gas reservoir is about to contribute significantly to local and regional energy supply.
In March, OMV Petrom and Romgaz began to train at the Neptun Deep Project, which would be the largest natural gas project in the Romanian Black Sea and the first offshore project in deep water.
“OMV Petrom discovers a new natural gas tank in Sineni, Romania” was created and originally published by Offshore Technology, a brand belonging to Globaldata.
