Speaking in a local hospital where the two officers were in critical condition but stable on Wednesday, the Pennsylvania state police commissioner, Christopher Paris, confirmed that “the shooter is dead”, but provided little details on the fatal events that took place during the County of York shooting.
“I can assure you that all the resources of the Pennsylvania state police are under charge,” said Paris, adding that the shooting site was still “an active scene”.
Paris said Pennsylvania’s state police would condemn a “major case team” in partnership with the York County Prosecutor’s Office and that he had been in contact with the FBI.
The commissioner was joined by the governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, who had rushed to the scene in the canton of North Codorus, about 185 kilometers (115 miles) west of Philadelphia, to meet families of the police killed and injured.
“It is an absolutely tragic and devastating day for the County of York and the whole Commonwealth in Pennsylvania,” said Shapiro.
The shooting of the five police officers intervenes in the heels of another high -level police officer who rocked the county of less than 500,000 people.

Learning that three officers were killed in the county of York where I worked for many years as a prosecutor, and always calling at home, is unfathomable.
