The Windsurf CEO goes to Google; OPENAI’s acquisition collapses

The Openai agreement to acquire the Coding startup of the Viral Windsurfs collapsed on Friday, according to The Verge.

In a shocking turn, Google Deepmind is now hiring Windsurf CEO, Varun Mohan, co-founder Douglas Chen, and some of the best coding talents from the startup. A Google spokesperson confirmed the hiring of Windisurf leaders in a statement to Techcrunch.

“We are delighted to welcome certain best coding talents from the Windisurf team to Google Deepmind to advance our work in the agency coding,” said Google spokesperson, Chris Pappas, in a Techcrunch email.

In particular, Google does not participate in Windsurf and will have no control over the company. However, as part of the agreement, Google will have a license not exclusive to certain plane board technologies, although the AI coding startup remains free to concede its technology to others.

The agreement represents the latest reversed Acquihire of the AI ecosystem, in which a company acquires the best talents of a startup and license its technology but does not pay the company outright. Google had previously concluded a matter similar to Hire Back Character. CEO Noam Shazeer, just like Microsoft to hire Mustafa Suleyman. These transactions have helped several large technological companies to increase their position in the AI race without drawing a regulatory examination.

“We are delighted to join Google Deepmind with part of the Windsurf team,” said Mohan and Chen in a statement to Techcrunch. “We are proud of what Windsurf has built in the past four years and we are delighted to see it go ahead with their world class team and launch the next phase.”

On Friday, Wand Wang’s manager of Wang’s activity will take over as the acting CEO of the startup, he announced in an article on social networks. Most of the team of 250 people from Windsurfs do not head to Google Deepmind and will continue to offer its AI coding tools for corporate customers.
