Summer Game Fest 2025 will remain memories as The one that happened while the waymos burned.
The event space of the SGF Play Days, where the media and game influencers meet the developers for a long weekend, is in the fashion district in Los Angeles, and this year, it was a few kilometers from the heart of the sprawling demonstrations against the ice. After months of inhuman and legally doubtful deportations of the residents of Los Angeles by masked federal agents – embraced by the extreme right extremism of President Donald Trump and equipped with weapons built for the war – the bubble of resistance broke out. The demonstrators reached the streets after ice police officers swept away dozens of people through the in another series of coordinated raids on Friday, June 6. The demonstrations increased over the weekend and Trump called the National Guard, followed by the Navies. Militarized LAPD officers attacked people with horses and batons, and they pulled rubber bullets on crowds and directly from a journalist. The thick black smoke was visible from the playing field. I saw it while I left the media fair, heading for food trucks, and that stopped me on my traces just opposite the Capcom stand. The low buzzing of helicopters and the cries of the police sirens had been a constant companion this weekend, but the smoke was new. I stopped and took a photo while the optimistic reggae music pumped the speaker next to me. At the corner of the street, an actor disguised as Fortnite The banana in a costume was attractive passers -by to play Ddakji as part of a cross -promotion effort with Calmar game. Dissonance made me turn my head.
The unhealthy pallor of the encroaching authoritarianism has hung on each video game agreement in the last six months – because it has literally has the observation of the United States this year. I spent a significant amount of this time actively closing reflections on the 2025 project, the trafficking in human beings sponsored by the government, neonazis and all kinds of hateful and sectarian policies targeting the most vulnerable people in the United States, because if I do not do it, the stress of these realities would consume me. I think most of us do something similar these days. We must pray specific thoughts at certain times, in order to do the work, to maintain relationships and spend the day. Have to ignore these monumental things in favor of, at least in my case, video games is a mindfuck.
The smoke of the Waymos on fire, visible from the main alley of SGF, looked like a physical manifestation of this constant internal tension. Video games are a vehicle for connection and expression, and they are deeply precious for society – but, as for anything else, their importance is a question of perspective.

Resident Evil Requiem is one thing
No doubt the largest number of news from SGF 2025, Resident Evil Requiem should be released on February 27, 2026. This is a main title Resident Evil with FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, and it offers familiar locations in the series, including the demolished City Raccoon Police Service.

There is an official Xbox laptop, but it is not made by Xbox
After months of rumors on Microsoft and Asus who combine to create a portable Xbox brand game device, we finally have relief. The Rog Xbox Ally and Rog Xbox Ally X must be released this season from the holidays, capable of playing Xbox games natively via the cloud or a distant console connection, and with the management of other popular PC windows like Steam, Gog and Battle.net. There is no word on the price or an exact release date yet, but Xbox pocket computers are definitively coming.
Overwhelmed Looks like the kind of pleasure we need right now
If you only have time to read an SGF 2025 game, familiarize yourself with Overwhelmed From the South African independent studio Nyamakop. It is a turning game on the rescue of African artefacts of the Western colonizers who stole them, and it is filled with puzzles, action and Afrofuturism. This one is to keep an eye.
Enter the world of writings of Mat Smith
The chief of the British Bureau d’Entadget, Mat Smith, was on the ground at the SGF 2025 and he has already published a trio of stories directly from the series, each more delicious than the previous one. Sea sword is a return to form for the artist behind Journey
I had a nice little conversation at SGF with Matt Nava, the artist responsible for Journey,, Abzaire,, The path without pathand the next sand surf game, Sea sword. Nava has spent the last decade running from her own shadow, but with Sea swordHe finally follows his intuition again.
