Baker Mayfield has never been the response of the Cleveland Browns
Since he arrived in Tampa Bay, whenever Buccaneers have needed a big regular season trip, Baker Mayfield has always found a way to deliver. And whenever he finds a way to win the miracle victory, Browns fans lose their heads they let their “golden goose” go.
The eccentric Mayfield has found a way to rejuvenate his career in Florida, and he made sure that the Browns organization knows that they made a huge mistake to let him go.
Categally speaking, the Cleveland Browns have been in a worst place since Baker Mayfield leave. To say that they have failed the trade of Deshaun Watson is an understatement. Its extension of trade and contract will become one of the worst movements in the history of the NFL.
I’m just not willing to concede that going from Mayfield was not the right decision for the Browns at the time. Baker has never been an elite QB for the Browns, and move him to Watson, a player considered one of the best in sport, was the right movement in the sense of football.
2018:
Note QB: 19th
QBR: 10th
2019:
QB evaluation: 31st
QBR: 19th
2020:
QB: 15th evaluation
QBR: 10th
2021:
QB: 27th evaluation
QBR: 27th
I know that these statistics are not an ideal way to encapsulate the impact of a quarter. However, I think they are doing a solid job to paint an image of what is, at best, a very average quarter, more realistically, lower than the average.
Baker always claims that he was just going to go to Cleveland. However, when he tried to play through his shoulder injury during the 2021 season, he wasted a talented list and was a key reason why this team did not return to the playoffs after an exciting season the previous year.
He blames everyone except himself for his failure in Cleveland. This team built him an elite offensive line, an excellent precipitation match with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, and he always had enough receivers to throw.
Not to mention good defenses to help him too. I know there were always a certain amount of drama surrounding the browns, but Baker was not a QB good enough for the browns, simple and simple.
Unfortunately, the Browns have gone from Baker, a guy whose personality makes him easy to instruct, to bring, perhaps, the worst human of the NFL. Not only did they bring a terrible guy, but they have shipped a ton of choice and are now locked in this horrible contract for a guy who cannot even arrive on the ground. And when he is even there, he looked like one of the worst quarters since the Browns returned to Cleveland, which is incredibly difficult to do.
I just don’t see a universe where Baker never works in Cleveland. In addition, it is not as if the Panthers or the Rams warmed up to keep this guy in the city. I have the impression that he rebounded enough and fell into an absolutely perfect situation with Tampa Bay.
If you administered Truth Serum to all fans of the Buccaneers and asked them if they believe that Baker Mayfield is a quarter-Arrière winner of the Super Bowl, many of them would reveal their real feelings. It is an average quarter, once again in a fantastic situation.
Last season, Baker was the second quarter-arre with a Deep backback. The only other player who put pressure on the pressures was Jalen Hurts, who won a super bowl, and no other player receives any more pretensions to be surfed than Hurts. This same hatred simply does not happen for Mayfield.
In addition, even with this elite protection, Baker finished 4th in the NFL in negative games last season, only behind Caleb Williams, Geno Smith and CJ Stroud, guys who treated the worst offensive fronts of sport.
Baker Mayfield creates a low ceiling and a high floor for your football team. It turns out that the Browns left him for the worst quarter of the NFL, on or off the field, so they will continue to obtain justified hatred.
The process was correct, and if the browns did not do for Watson, I would never hold this movement against them. Baker Mayfield has never been the answer to Cleveland.
