The themes of meetings will include security and economic resilience, based on a meeting of G7 Foreign Ministers in Quebec in March and at the Summit of G7 leaders in Alberta in June.

During the Quebec Ministerial Reunion, Canada proposed actions to respond to shared concerns in the Arctic Oceans, the Pacific and the Atlantic, in particular by detecting ships that try to escape sanctions and protect biodiversity.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended this meeting and said at the time that he was focusing on work with American allies, rather than the repeated comments by US President Donald Trump on becoming an American state.
