The developed world must act on climate finance, explains Pakistan at COP-29

The Minister of Climate Change, Dr. Musadik Malik, urged the international community to take rapid and fair measures to combat climate change, highlighting the need to reduce deeper emissions and increased resilience funding for vulnerable countries.
He made these remarks during bilateral meetings with the president of COP-29 and a special envoy on the environment to the president of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev and the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs in Azerbaijan and the main negotiator, Yalchin Rafiyev.
The meetings took place on the sidelines of the leaders of the delegation retirement in Shamakhi.
The Minister stressed that if the countries of the South World South are faced with the most severe consequences of climate disasters, the Northern world continues to be the main contributor to historic and current greenhouse gas emissions.
Malik said the location of Pakistan next to two of the best carbon issuers in the world aggravates its climate vulnerability. He reiterated the need for developed countries to respect their climate financing commitments and to carry out the charge for reducing emissions.
He stressed that climate change is a cross -border challenge, with an environmental degradation and extreme weather conditions with an impact on populations through borders. He called for strengthening international cooperation rooted in justice, science and sustainability.
The two parties also discussed the ways to deepen green cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, in particular renewable energies, climate agriculture, strategies for reducing disaster and adaptation.
Malik reaffirmed Pakistan support for multilateral climate governance and has expressed his hope that COP-29 would provide significant progress towards inclusive and scientific global climate solutions.
