Countdown Season 1 is a criminal dramatic series that made its debut on Amazon Prime Video on June 25, 2025. Derek Haas created and wrote the series and is also its showrunner. It is produced by Mike Ganzman and Executive produced by Marc property, Jonathan Brown and Haas.
In Countdown Season 1, Jensen Ackles plays the detective Lapd Mark Meachum, who joins a federal working group with Amber Oliveras, Keyonte Bell, Evan Shepherd and Lucas Finau to investigate the murder of an internal security agent and stop a terrorist plot to launch a nuclear attack on American soil.
Amazon Prime Video described the official synopsis of Countdown Season 1, as follows,
“When an Officer of the Ministry of Internal Security is assassinated in broad daylight, the detective of LAPD, Mark Meachum, is recruited in a secret working group, alongside infiltrated agents of all the branches of the police, to investigate. But the hunt for the killer soon discovers a much more sinister land than anyone could have imagined, by launching a race against the time to save a city.”
What is the countdown Season 1 About?
Countdown Season 1 includes 13 episodes and will end on September 3, 2025. He broadcast the first three episodes together on June 25, 2025, the remaining episodes that freeing himself every week on Wednesday at midnight HE. The execution time for each episode is between 45 and 53 minutes.
The Thriller Action series is led by Jonathan Brown, Avi Youabian, Tess Malone, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Lisa Robinson, Rashidi Natara Harper, Eric Stoltz and Chris Grismer.
In addition, Jensen Ackles told Hollywood Reporter on June 25, 2025, that his character, Mark Meachum, in Countdown Season 1 is an ode to action heroes of the 80s and 1990s. He described his character as follows,
“He has a love of the game. He is a guy who found his vocation by doing what he does. I can turn to the characters of the old for inspiration – the John McClanes (Die Hard) and (Martin) Riggs of Lethal Weapon. All these first action films of the first 80 and 90s with the Kurt Russells, Bruce Will and Harrison Ford.”
He added,
“But also like Josh Brolin in Sicario. A guy who likes to present himself in the flip-flops who do not give a sh * t, where perhaps his commanding officers do not like how tightly he is. I always gravity towards characters like that. I loved looking at performance like that. So, it was very easy for me to fall to find this guy.”
A brief summary of Countdown Season 1
Countdown Season 1 begins with the murder of the officer HSI, Robert Darden. In response, the main agent of FBI Nathan Blythe creates a federal working group including Mark Meachum, Amber Oliveras, Evan Shepherd, Keyonte Bell and Luke Finau from various law application such as FBI, LAPD, DEA and secret services.
During their investigation, the team’s technological expert, Evan, zeros like the shooter and identifies him as Cesar Murillo. Another key figure is Maurice Spellman, colleague from Robert of the customs and border protection division. They discover that Robert examined Spellman’s corrupt activities with a drug cartel before being killed.
Spellman reveals that he helped the Cartel and Borys Volchek, an official of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense. In episode 2 of Countdown Season 1, Mark and Amber infiltrate the cartel through one of its members Javi Lopez and make a drug for him.
They help bring a heroine truck to the United States from Mexico to gain Javi’s confidence and access its drug operations. But, before he can disclose any relevant information, Javi is killed in the explosion of the car by Volcheck.
In the third episode, Mark connects with Timur Novikov, an inmate from the prison he knew when he worked under cover in Palmdale prison. Timur leads Mark to his uncle, Mikhail, ignoring that he is working for Volchek. At Mikhail’s manor, Mark discovers plans, electronic gadgets and cards, confirming his suspicion that Volchek plans something sinister.
However, Volchek and Mikhail escape during the shooting that followed with the Mark’s team at the end of the Countdown Season 1 Episode 3.
