The British countries have disagreed on the strength to denounce the Israel bomb of Iran and its actions in Gaza.
The president of Brazil says that the world must act to stop what it describes as an Israeli “genocide” in Gaza as leaders of 11 emerging nations of Brics gathered in Rio de Janeiro.
“We cannot remain indifferent to the genocide directed by Israel in Gaza, the blind murder of innocent civilians and the use of hunger as a weapon of war,” President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva of China, India and other nations said on Sunday.
His comments came while Gaza Truce for talks between Israel and Hamas resumed Doha and as a pressure shown to end the 21 -month war, which began with the attack on October 7, 2023 in Hamas in the south of Israel.
Lula said that “absolutely nothing could justify Hamas’ terrorist actions that day, which led to the death of 1,219 people, mainly Israeli civilians.
But he also offered a fierce criticism of the subsequent actions of Israel. The military campaign of Israel killed at least 57,418 people in Gaza, also mainly civilians.

“Autonomy in failure once again”
Rio leaders called for the reform of traditional Western institutions while presenting the BRICS as a defender of multilateral diplomacy in an increasingly faster world.
With forums such as G7 and G20 groups large economies by divisions and the first disturbing approach to America from the American president Donald Trump, the expansion of the BRICS has opened a new space for diplomatic coordination.
In its opening remarks, Lula has drawn a parallel with the non -aligned movement of the Cold War, a group of developing countries which resisted to officially join each side of a polarized world order.
“The BRICS are the heir to the non -aligned movement,” Lula told leaders. “With the attacked multilateralism, our autonomy is again in check.”
BRICS nations now represent more than half of the world’s population and 40% of its economic production.
Leaders of Brazil, Russia, India and China gathered for its first summit in 2009. The block then added South Africa and last year included Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Irania, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as members. This is the first summit of leaders to include Indonesia.
However, some leaders lacked this year’s summit. Chinese President Xi Jinping has chosen to send his Prime Minister to his place. Russian President Vladimir Putin attended online due to a mandate issued for his arrest by the International Criminal Court.
However, several heads of state gathered for discussions at the Rio’s Museum of Modern Art Sunday and Monday, notably the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
More than 30 nations have expressed their interest in participating in the BRICS, as a full -fledged member or partners.
