Martin Capital’s founder and CEO Rod Martin explains if President Donald Trump’s prices will lead to a new world world order on “earning money”.
Barbie Mattel manufacturer has announced that it increases prices on some of its toys and “more reducing dependence on products from China” while the company is sailing in a “volatile macroeconomic environment and evolving the American tariff landscape”.
The California-based toymaker imports around 20% of its goods sold in the United States from China, according to Reuters.
He quoted financial director Anthony Disilvestro said Mattel on Monday that Mattel expected around 270 million dollars in additional costs against prices in 2025, but plans to compensate for these costs thanks to attenuating actions.
“There is no doubt that the prices create disturbances in the industry. Many companies have ceased production and shipping to the United States due to prices from China. We support the advocacy of the Toys toys Association for Toys,” said Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz, Reuters.

The company said in a press release that: “Given the volatile macroeconomic environment and the evolution of the American tariff landscape, it is difficult to predict consumption expenses and American sales of Mattel in the rest of the year and the holiday season.”
“Although the prices did not affect the financial results of the first quarter of Mattel, the company takes attenuating measures designed to fully compensate for the potential impact of the progressive costs of prices on future performance,” he added.

These actions, said Mattel, include “accelerating the diversification of its supply chain and further reducing dependence on the product from China” and “if necessary, taking pricing measures in its American activities.

For example, Mattel increases the production of her UNO card game in India, said Kreiz.
Last week, Trump, while speaking of prices, said: “Maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, you know, and maybe the two dolls will cost a few dollars more than they would normally do.”
Mattel imports Barbie Dolls and Hot Wheels Toys from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand – three countries which were also slapped by the Trump administration before they were interrupted in April for 90 days, Reuters reported.

Mattel now aims to reduce imports to the United States from China less than 15% by next year, he added.
