I know what you did last summer, the scene of last summer credits pays a perfect tribute to a terrible film

This article contains spoilers For the 2025, “I know what you did last summer”.
When “I Know What You Do Doy Last” made its debut in 1997, it was greeted by a mixed reception by criticism, but brought a background of blue-size funds to the box office. A shooting budget of $ 17 million won $ 125.3 million before taking advantage of a significant change in change thanks to the home video rental market. A sequel was inevitable, and a little more than a year later, “I always know what you did last summer” hit theaters. Although boasting 10% on Rotten Tomatoes is not something to write (or threaten letters to Sharpie, if you want), it was always a financial success.
Unfortunately, the less than stellar reception of the suite did not help launch the series in a formidable franchise. The direct continuation of the video “I always know what you did last summer” arrived nearly a decade after the end of the party, and the main adaptation of the 2021 video series was canceled after a single season.
But when it was announced that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson made a legacyquet (read my positive review here), and that Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt resumed their roles as Ray Bronson and Julie James, Diehard fans had a question: where is Karla Wilson? Represented by the vocal bible itself, Brandy Norwood, Karla was Julie’s roommate in “I always know what you did last summer”. She had the chance to survive the return of Ben Willis / The Fisherman, and since Brandy recently appeared in horror films, there was a hope that she would return to the franchise.
Although Brandy does not appear in the main events of the new film, she presents herself in a scene of median credits which not only recontextualizes the whole tone of The Legacyquet, but which also teases the kind of team between Julie and the fans of Karla were refused by “I know” disappointing. “”
Why Karla Wilson is so loved
Karla was not only Julie’s roommate; She was the first best friend she made after the murder of her first best friend, Helen Shivers (Sarah Michelle Gellar). Casting Brandy was a decision of genius because it is difficult to overestimate how massively it was popular in the 1990s. Her second studio album, “Never Say Never”, became certified fivefold Platinum, she played in her own television program, “Moesha”, would soon be transformed into a celebrity doll by the manufacturer of Barbie Mattel, she portrayed “Cundrillon” Disney, and has proven itself. In its own right, Brandy Norwood was undoubtedly THE Reason to introduce yourself to “I always know what you did last summer”. And although the Slasher was not well received, everyone loved Karla.
Unlike the roommate of Sidney Prescott, hallie in “Scream 2”, Karla does not meet her end following living with a last girl. She was funny, united, a good student, ridiculously elegant and a little naive, but armed with the only competence that most of the characters in the Slasher films seem to be missing: self-preservation. Karla is rightly upset when Julie cries: “I just wanted it to be finished, I didn’t want to involve someone else”, and it’s so refreshing to see a character refusing to slow down their emotions to appease the main character. When people started to die, Karla never acted without thinking about things and was proactive trying to get out of hell from the danger zone rather than stay and wait to become another count on the number of fisherman’s bodies.
Karla was put to the test and had more close calls than even Julie and Ray, and always lived it alive.
Why the median scene of ikwydls credits works so well
After the events of “I know what you did last summer” 2025, the Mid-Crédits scene sees Karla looking at the news to see that her old roommate Julie James again escaped death, this time in the hands of his ex-husband, Ray. She jokes about how the danger does not seem to leave her old friend alone when there is a blow to the door. It seems that the fisherman can visit him, but it’s Julie. The two old friends meet when Julie shows Karla that she received a note indicating that hell is not finished and that she needs her help. Without hesitation, Karla asks who they have to face this time, teasing a reunion team where Julie and Karla ended the fisherman and her copies for good.
This moment is not only a big bit of fans service and a perfect pavement for a sequel, but it also recontextualizes the film that preceded it. It is not inherited from the first film, but all the film franchise as we know it. It is the parallel of the new film having two last daughters instead of one, and a confirmation that the Humor Campy exposed was intentional, because it conforms to the tone given by the second and third films. I do not know if we will get Karla & Julie Revenge’s thriller that we deserve, but as regards the Mid-Credit scenes, “I know what you did last summer” hung a real winner.
“I know what you did last summer” is now in theaters around the world.
