Taylor Sheridan’s Landman will explore a real world oil problem in season 2

Prepare, fans of “Landman”; Season 2 is closer than you think. The latest series of the spirit of the creator of “Yellowstone” Taylor Sheridan, “Landman” became an instant success for streamer during his first in 2024. Indeed, viewers are now fully engaged in this oil drama, which features Billy Bob Thornton (“Armageddon”) as an oil man named Tommy Norris. And although the spectacle is a fictional work, it is inspired by the real world. To this end, a real problem that afflicted the petroleum industry will have an impact on the second season of the show.
“Landman” was inspired by the Podcast “Boomtown”, offering a story on Roughnecks and billionaires that reshape our climate, our economy and our geopolitics. But again, the series itself is ultimately a work of narrative fiction. In any case, the co-creator Christian Wallace explained to Entertainment Weekly that the problem of the flight of oil was going to be put in the foreground in season 2 of “Landman”. Here is what he had to say about this:
“Just last year, there were a lot of oil flight – people who fly oil in tanks and then sell it on the black market – and some of them were directly linked to Mexico cartels. This is a continuous problem we have.” Now. “
In Wallace’s Point, Texas legislators have created a working group to specifically target the threats of petroleum field, according to Texas Tribune. As he also pointed out, he and Sheridan do not necessarily go for hyper-realism here. They take something that really happens and plays for the drama. “Landman” is certainly not a documentary, after all.
Landman is inspired by real challenges of the petroleum industry
“Landman” is largely filmed in Texas in addition to taking place there, so even if the spectacle fictionalizes the life of the oil of the real world, it also goes for a certain degree of authenticity at the same time. While Wallace continued to explain, he can consider this specific crime element playing on a longer calendar as the series progresses (potentially in season 3 and beyond):
“I think it is a scenario that will continue to develop because part of the challenges of the actual oil and gas industry at the moment is theft, crime and aspects of the black market that come into play in western Texas. We are trying to bring these elements of truth that inform an entertaining story, but we are also insightful of what it is to work in oil and gas.”
Currently, very little has been confirmed in season 2.. We know that Cami Miller de Demi Moore will play a more important role. Beyond that, many is in the air, but Wallace’s comments help to shed light on what viewers can expect. Besides the crime of all this, he also revealed that there will be a lot of fights when the show will come back – it will simply not be the physical type:
“They are not always physical; some of them are very emotional or very provoking a danger. There is always something that hides [Tommy’s] Beware of the area. Even with his family, each decision they make, he must then manage too. So there are all kinds of fights in the world. Some are even in your head. “”
Season 2 of “Landman” will begin to broadcast on November 16, 2025, on Paramount +.
