Syracuse, SMU ready to go from painful losses

Syracuse and SMU seek to bounce after Senières defeats on Saturday afternoon when the teams of the Atlantic coast conference fight in Dallas.
Orange (3-2, 1-1) leaves 38-3 in Duke last weekend. Playing without starting the quarter-Arrière Steve Angeli (Torn Achille), Syracuse turned to Rickie Collins for her first career departure.
Collins finished 24 out of 37 for 229 yards with an interception, while its superior target, Johntay Cook, captured six passes for 74 yards but stained twice.
“He had some mistakes, but I don’t think he had trouble,” said Orange coach Fran Brown about Collins, a transfer of LSU.
After having displayed a 10-3 file last season in the first year of Brown on the sidelines, Syracuse was not so impressive in 2025. Of course, losing key players in obtaining the diploma, transfers and injuries did not help.
“There is a lot of things happening, but we are still building a program,” said Brown. “How many matches we played last year? Thirteen – and five this year. So I’m only there since 18 games, so it takes time.”
SMU (2-2, 0-0) also needs a little more time to go there this year. The Mustangs, who played in the match for the title of the ACC a season, losing against Clemson, were inactive since a defeat of 35-24 in Rival TCU on September 20.
SMU led this match with less than 10 minutes to play before allowing two late touchs – both on short passes in which Eric MCALISTER de TCU crossed the defense and sprinted 70 and 44 yards in the goal area.
“The execution on Critical Down and Distances was not there,” said the defensive coordinator of Mustangs, Scott Symons. “We have to execute and understand the importance of situational football.”
Kevin Jennings passed for 290 yards, three affected and two interceptions against TCU. The junior launched at least one choice at each match and watched his percentage of completion plunge from 73.3% when the season opened at 72.7, 66.7 and more recently 63.2 in defeat against horns in horns.
The only previous meeting between Syracuse and SMU took place in 1932, the Mustangs winning 16-6.
