Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won 400m of gold at the United States outdoor championships

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won gold in the 400 meters at the outdoor athletics championships in the United States in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday, successfully defending his victory in 2023.

The holder of the world record and Olympic defending champion in the hedges of the 400m, McLaughlin-Levrone won on Saturday with a time of 48.90 seconds, his best brand this season and 0.16 seconds of shortening of his personal record. Isabella Whittaker won the money with a time of 49.59 seconds while Aliyah Butler won bronze in 49.91.

The three times were good enough to qualify for the world athletics championships in Tokyo in September.

The four -day American championships started on Thursday and took place until Sunday. The best three finisters of each event qualify for the world championship as long as they respect the world standard of their event or are sufficiently high in the world ranking.

The time of McLaughlin-Levrone on Saturday was also 0.20 second behind the American record of Sanya Richards-Ross.

“Everyone talks about the American record, of course, but it will come when it will come,” she said. “I think this year and this event taught me patience. I learned a lot about myself and I learned a lot about the 400.”

Masai Russell, who also won gold in Paris last year at 100m Haidles, also won the event on Saturday, with 12.22 seconds – 0.05 seconds from the American record she set in May.

Grace Stark won Silver with a time of 12.31 and Alaysha Johnson won bronze with a 12.36 brand, ahead of Keni Harrison (12.37).

In the male 400, Jacory Patterson won gold with a time of 44.16 seconds. Patterson will go to Tokyo who seeks to improve his bronze final at the World Championships in Nanjing, in China, in March.

Chris Bailey, who won 44.43, also described the worlds in the 400.

And in the 1500m male, Jonah Koech came from sixth place to the last round to win the event, beating Ethan Strand, the title champion of the NCAA at 3000m. Koech posted a 3 -minute personal record, 30.17 seconds while Strand finished in 3: 30.25. Cole Hoecker, reigning Olympic champion and the holder of the American record, finished third at 3: 30.37.
