The Supreme Court of Brazil refuses to stop Bolsonaro on the ban on social media | Jair Bolsonaro News

The Brazilian Supreme Court confirmed that it did not intend to take custody of former president Jair Bolsonaro for the moment, after warning earlier this week that he could be arrested for a potential violation of a ban on social media.

On Thursday, judge Alexandre de Moraes described the incident as “isolated” and opted for an arrest warrant.

De Moraes supervised a case to know if Bolsonaro, a popular far right figure, tried a coup against the government of the current president Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, following his defeat during the 2022 presidential election.

The case was a flash point in national and international policy, with supporters of Bolsonaro – among which the President of the United States Donald Trump – qualifying the accusation of politically motivated.

Bolsonaro has long denied having orchestrated a power conservation program after the end of his four -year term in 2023.

But the prosecutors accused the former president and his allies of plotting the government entering Lula by undermining confidence in the vote, declaring a state of emergency to suspend the functions of the government and, ultimately, hold a new election.

Bolsonaro never publicly recognized his loss in 2022, and he left the country at the end of his mandate rather than putting power to Lula.

His supporters, on the other hand, took over the police headquarters in the capital, blocked the highways and finally ransacked by the government’s buildings representing the presidency, the Congress and the Supreme Court, in an apparent attempt to trigger a military uprising.

In June, Bolsonaro testified for the first time in the case, forcefully rejecting the allegations against him: “There has never been a discussion on a coup.”

The prosecutors, on the other hand, said that testimonies indicate that Bolsonaro had received and published a project from his allies for the declaration of emergency. They say that Bolsonaro even had a speech ready to announce the alleged coup.

The trial with high issues caused a Trump’s backlash, which threatened to impose prices of 50% on Brazilian imports in the United States, from August 1, to end the accusation.

In a letter announcing the prices, Trump described the procedure as “international shame” and compared his countless legal misfortunes in Bolsonaro.

“This trial should not take place,” wrote Trump. “It’s a witch hunt that should end immediately!”

The Moraes judge cited international pressure when he imposed a series of restrictions last Friday to cut Bolsonaro’s interactions with foreign officials and reduce his movements.

Already, Bolsonaro’s passport had been confiscated, lest it be a risk of theft. But to prevent it from fleeing abroad, from Moraes ruled that Bolsonaro should be placed under house arrest on nights and weekends.

In addition, the judge decided that Bolsonaro had to wear an ankle instructor and stop publishing on social networks, in addition to breaking contact with foreign governments.

Since that time, however, Bolsonaro has appeared with the media to show his ankle monitor and push the decisions of the Supreme Court, from which extracts have been widely shared on social networks.

“It is a symbol of the greatest humiliation,” said Bolsonaro about his ankle monitor.

De Moraes accused Bolsonaro of having “delivered a speech to show on digital platforms” and wondered if this could be a violation of the prohibition he imposed.

He gave Bolsonaro lawyers a 24 -hour window to respond to his concerns and warned that a violation could lead to Bolsonaro’s arrest.

Bolsonaro’s defense team, in response, denied having violated the ban on social media and asked for clarity on its scope. The ban had restricted the use by Bolsonaro of third parties to disseminate his messages – but it was not clear if the media appeared in this category.

Friday, in a legal file, of Moraes finally refused to hold Bolsonaro, but warned that any future violation of its restrictions would lead to its arrest.

He said Bolsonaro is not prevented from giving interviews to the media.
