Vipraj Nigam files FIR after receiving death threats, blackmail calls from foreign numbers

Delhi Capitals (DC) cricketer Vipraj Nigam has filed a complaint with the police after he allegedly received threatening and blackmailing calls from a woman using several international phone numbers. According to reports, the harassment had been going on for more than two months, with the caller making repeated requests.
Vipraj has been one of the biggest positives for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 season, showcasing his all-round capabilities. The 21-year-old has picked up 11 wickets in 14 matches and scored 142 runs. His consistent performances have put him in contention for retention ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 mini-auction.

Vipraj Nigam filed an FIR after facing months of harassment and threats from a woman who allegedly tried to blackmail him. According to his complaint, the caller made repeated demands and even threatened to release a video if he did not comply.

Vipraj, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony in Barabanki, said the harassment started in September 2025. “Initially, the calls were made from one mobile number, but after I blocked him, the same person started using several foreign numbers to harass me,” he said.
After blocking his initial number, the woman continued to contact him via several international numbers, sending him abusive messages and threatening calls. The case was officially registered at Kotwali Nagar police station on Saturday evening.
Police register FIR under NBS sections 351 (3) and 352 following Vipraj Nigam’s complaint
On Sunday afternoon, Vipraj Nigam lodged a formal complaint at the Nagar Kotwali police station around 4 p.m. According to the complaint, the accused woman allegedly tried to extort him by threatening to file false criminal charges and posting fake videos on social media to damage his image.
Following her complaint, the police registered an FIR under sections 351 (3) of the NBS for criminal intimidation and 352 for insult and provocation of breach of peace. The accused has been identified as Richa Purohit. The authorities are currently working to trace the accused and verify the legitimacy of the threats.
Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya confirmed that an investigation was underway. Nagar Kotwali officers, led by Sudhir Kumar Singh, started examining call records, digital evidence and the source of international numbers used to contact the player.

Vipraj Nigam and his family are extremely troubled by the continued harassment and potential misuse of his personal information. The cricketer called on the authorities to intervene immediately to stop any further damage to his reputation.
Police officials assured that the matter was being handled urgently and strict legal action would follow once the evidence was fully examined.
The incident also attracted attention within the cricket fraternity, raising concerns over the growing number of cases of cyberharassment and blackmail involving professional athletes.
“A case has been registered based on the cricketer’s complaint. The call details and digital evidence are being examined. The case is being investigated,” Nagar Kotwal Sudhir Kumar Singh said.
