The 3-0 Saturday defeat at home against the London rivals, Tottenham, increased the pressure on the manager of West Ham, Graham Potter, which seems more and more likely to be relieved of its functions.
It was a lamentable start for the new season for West Ham, apart from a 3-0 shock victory at Nottingham Forest two weeks ago. There was already pressure on Potter in the countryside, but it increased tenfold after having crushed the defeats against Sunderland, Chelsea and Tottenham.
And if Potter was to be released in the coming weeks, arrangements are already taken to name his successor.
West Ham wants Nuno Espirito Santo to replace Graham Potter
According to Alan Nixon (via Hammers News), West Ham is interested in moving for Nuno Espirito Santo if they separate from Graham Potter. The owner of the club, David Sullivan, would be an admirer of the Portuguese manager, recently dismissed by Nottingham Forest in surprising circumstances.
Nuno’s availability would have returned Potter’s position to the London stadium even more untenable, and that would only have won with the defeat against Tottenham in the derby on Saturday.
It would not be surprising to see Potter leave West Ham in the coming weeks, because he does not seem to work for him. And with regard to replacements, Nuno would be excellent, and he showed during spells at Wolves and Nottingham Forest that he is able to stabilize the ship.
For the moment, it remains to be seen what is going on with Potter at West Ham. At this point, it does not seem to be relieved of his duties before the home match of next weekend against Crystal Palace, but a defeat could be enough for him.
