India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is all set to begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI Center of Excellence from December 1. REGISTER NOW!It is learned that the 26-year-old underwent physiotherapy sessions in Mumbai before flying to Chandigarh to spend time with his family. He will fly to Bangalore from Chandigarh on Monday. Convalescence is currently on track and he has not encountered any discomfort despite the multiple flights he has made. During this period, he remained away from the nets but is expected to take over in the coming days under the supervision of the BCCI medical team at the CoE.
“There is no red flag at the moment and he has taken several flights – Kolkata to Guwahati, Guwahati to Mumbai, Mumbai to Chandigarh and now Chandigarh to Bengaluru – without any inconvenience. All efforts currently are aimed at getting him back into the park, but it will not be a rushed process.“As soon as he is 100 per cent and feels ready to face the match, he will come back to the team. He is an important player in all formats and everyone wants him to be absolutely ready,” said an official aware of the developments.After injuring his neck during the first innings of the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata, Gill was hospitalized and ruled out of the match and the next match in Guwahati as well.
Shubman Gill is looking to recover in time for the first T20I against South Africa on December 9.
Although he traveled with the team for the second match, he was unable to regain fitness in the short turnaround. After reaching Mumbai, Gill consulted a spine specialist in Mumbai and was advised to take more rest before starting rehabilitation, training and professional activity.The coming days could decide his participation in the five-match T20I series against South Africa, starting December 9. Having already missed Tests and ODIs, Gill is leaving no stone unturned to regain his fitness ahead of the shortest format.
