Shawn Levy drops final ‘Stranger Things’ allusions

Shawn Levy promised the end of Stranger Things will be “as good as any TV series finale” anyone has ever seen.

The executive producer said that not only would fans be happy with how the Netflix drama would end after five seasons, but they would be especially happy to know that the long-running triangle between Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) would finally be resolved.

In a conversation with PEOPLE magazine, Shawn was asked what fans should expect, to which he replied: “A finale as good as any TV series finale I’ve seen in my life, and a resolution to the whole Jancy Stancy controversy/triangle.”

He also believes that the key to the program’s success lies in the balance between “epic cinematic storytelling” and the everyday drama of the characters.

“There’s so much talk about the ’80s and the monsters and the music, but I think the secret sauce is that it’s epic cinematic storytelling with very intimate character stories,” Shawn said.

“It’s the combination of the huge, the very small and the personal that I think is the magic,” he added.

The 57-year-old filmmaker admitted that filming the show’s final season was filled with mixed emotions.

“I guess there was this bittersweet umbrella that was sort of present throughout the whole shoot because we knew how special it was,” he recalls.

“We knew these bonds were forever, but we knew they were coming to an end. And so that kind of smile with tears in your eyes, that feeling was very prevalent throughout the year,” Shawn Levy explained.
