Senator Ruben Gallego, Democrat of Arizona, introduced a bill Tuesday aimed at stopping President Donald Trump from invading Greenland.

Gallego announced a legislative push on X, saying Congress must stop Trump “before he invades another country on a whim.” The bill is one of several Democratic-backed efforts to prevent Trump from taking military action against other countries following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

“Families are being crushed by rising grocery and housing prices, inflation is rising, and Trump’s name is all over the Epstein files. Instead of doing anything to solve these problems, Trump is trying to distract people by threatening to start wars and invade countries – first in Venezuela, and now against our NATO ally Denmark,” Gallego said in a statement.

“What is happening in Venezuela shows us that we cannot simply ignore Trump’s reckless threats. His dangerous behavior endangers American lives and our global credibility. I am introducing this amendment to make it clear that Congress will not fund illegal and unnecessary military action, and to force Republicans to choose whether they will finally stand up or continue to enable Trump’s chaos,” he added.

President Donald Trump told reporters on Air Force One this weekend that the United States needs Greenlanda Danish territory, for “national security”.

Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at the White House Stephen Miller doubled the bet on Trump’s remarks Monday, telling CNN that Greenland “should be part of the United States.”

CNN anchor Jake Tapper asked Miller if the Trump administration could rule out military action to take the Arctic island.

“Greenland has 30,000 people,” Miller said. “The real question is what right does Denmark have to claim control over Greenland? What is the basis for its territorial claim? What is the basis for Greenland to be a colony of Denmark?”

“The United States is the power of NATO. For the United States to secure the Arctic region, protect and defend NATO and NATO interests, it is obvious that Greenland should be part of the United States,” he added.

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in a statement posted on Facebook on Monday that his country was “not the subject of superpower rhetoric.”

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has claimed that a US takeover of Greenland would effectively destroy NATO.

“But I also want to make it clear that if the United States chooses to militarily attack another NATO country, then everything will stop. Including our NATO and therefore the security that has been ensured since the end of World War II,” she said.
