Seamus Coleman signs an extension with Everton taking the defender at 17 years old with Toffees

Captain of Everton Seamus Coleman is committed to a 17th season with the club after accepting an extension of a one -year contract.

The 36 -year -old right back, who joined the Toffees in 2009, became a fantastic servant during his long term at Goodison Park.

Coleman appeared in 428 games in all competitions for Everton, and his 369 Premier League appearances are the most important of all the players in the history of the club.

“I love Everton so keep playing for this special club means everything for me and my family,” said the Republic of Irish International.

“Like each of our passionate fans, I lived and breathed which was difficult for the club and I put my heart and my soul to do everything I can to help us pass through.”

His previous contract expired at the end of June, but the New Deal guarantees that Coleman will be part of Everton’s transition to their new house at the Hill Dickinson stadium after 133 years at Goodison Park.

“Thanks to the hard work of many people, we were able to enter our magnificent new stadium and pave the way for a better future under new ambitious owners, which I want to be a part,” he added.

“After a disappointing moment with injuries last season, I will focus on hard work, spending as much time as possible in the field and helping Everton in any way possible.”

Coleman was limited to only five championship matches during the 2024-25 season due to injuries. Despite his time on the sidelines, he played a role of leadership on the ground, briefly entering temporary management alongside the U18 coach Leighton Baines after the dismissal of Sean Dyche in January.

“His leadership, his professionalism and his humanity are unequaled,” said Everton manager David Moyes, who initially signed Coleman from Sligo Rovers for £ 60,000 in 2009.

“He has helped transport the club through difficult periods in recent years and his influence in the locker room has been the key to this.

“It could be a period of real change at the club and I want someone who can help transmit messages of what an Everton footballer means. Seamus has always done this and I know that he will continue to do it while we enter a new era.”
