SCOOP: Anil Kapoor buys the rights to his cult film Nayak; aspires to make its sequel: Bollywood News
Anil Kapoor has had an illustrious career and has made several memorable films. A film that stands out in his filmography is Nayak (2001). The political drama did not work in the cinema but subsequently became a cult film. Fans have long been calling for a sequel to Nayak And Bollywood Hungama has learned that the plan may finally come to fruition.

A source said Bollywood Hungama« Producer Deepak Mukut of Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) fame owned the rights to Nayak. Anil Kapoor is said to have bought the rights from him. He plans to own the rights because it is a film that is close to his heart. He also aims to make a sequel. He is fully aware of the love he has garnered for the film over the years and he is also convinced that the subject of the film Nayak has huge potential for a part two.
We contacted Deepak Mukut to find out if he had sold the rights to Nayak to Anil Kapoor but he was not available for comment.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama in March 2024, Deepak Mukut said Bollywood Hungama“I obtained the rights to NayakThe producer of Mr. AS Rathnam. I also have the negative rights to his other films like Tejasvini (1994), Dil Hi Dil Mein (1999), etc. It’s been 10 years since I acquired these rights.
Besides Anil Kapoor, Nayak also starred Rani Mukerji, late Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla, Johny Lever, Shivaji Satam, Neena Kulkarni and others. Pooja Batra appeared in a cameo while Sushmita Sen was seen in a song. Written and directed by Shankar, it tells the story of an intrepid journalist who becomes the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a day. The changes he brought to the state in 24 hours made him a national hero.
