Sarina Wiegman on the selection of England Euro 2025 for women: we are about to know our team of 23 players | Football news

England director Sarina Wiegman says she is “close enough” to know her team of 23 players for Euro 2025.
The Lionesses are in Barcelona for their last A3 match of the Nations League group against the winners of the World Cup in Spain on Tuesday, and Thursday Wiegman will appoint his team for the next defense of the title Euros in England in Switzerland.
Speaking before the match, defender Lucy Bronze said that the players will be selected for the euros in their whole season, not just performances against Spain.
And when they asked him how his selection looks like his selection, Wiegman said: “We are quite close. You always want to go to the game tomorrow and make the final decisions.”
England has already beaten Spain in the League of Nations during the current campaign, winning 1-0 in Wembley in February. Although the victory of the last game is at the top of the task list, Wiegman will also examine his team for the next tournament during his name in his XI.
“We want to win and each price you want to win. You want to have a good performance tomorrow, but we are also preparing for the euros,” she said.
“If a player has a little injury that would be a risk for the euros, I would not play it. Always at the same time, I think our team is strong enough to have a good performance against a high -level team. We are also a high -level team, and we want to win the match.”
The rear right Bronze urged the team to focus on the task to be completed on Tuesday and not at the upcoming announcement.
“I think I play each game as if it was my last, so I don’t think it’s a problem,” she said. “Especially for England, you put this shirt and you don’t want to leave anything on the ground.
“You are playing against one of the best world teams in Spain, you have the opportunity for England, you cannot think too far in advance or take things for granted.
“As players, you just have to take what is in front of you. The team is not chosen according to the actions tomorrow is what you have done all season, what you have done for England, what you do in training. It is every moment that tomorrow for us is another important game, another tournament that we want to win.
“After this whistle, it’s the next thing and it’s the selection of euros for Sarina.”
“ James Fitness remains the key problem ”
Anton Toloui from Sky Sports News at the RCDE stadium:
Wiegman does not give anything in his selection of squads in euros, which takes place less than 48 hours after the match of Spain.
The key, however, is the ability of Lauren James. Wiegman would not be exploited if it will advance the Chelsea even if it is not ready for the opening match.
She said about the Chelsea striker: “She tries to get in shape with all the support of Chelsea and us. She is fine and we are going ahead.
“She needs to check certain boxes and when she does, we can progress, so it’s very good because we think she can make a difference to the euros.
“But she needs to be healthy, must recover and play at the highest level. I am quite positive that it will work.”
If there is a sniff, James could have an impact on the tournament, she will be on the plane, but if she is not fully fit, then Wiegman need to modify his plan to take two players for each position to take an additional attacker?
If this is the case, it will be at the sacrifice of a defender or a midfielder, with squad players, notably Maya Le Tissier and Fran Kirby, faced with a nervous expectation.
“ It is an objective to win the League of Nations ”
England won Portugal 6-0 against Portugal during their penultimate match of the Nations League on Friday, marking twice in the first five minutes. While Spain will be a more severe test, Wiegman hopes for another strong start.
She said: “Spain is a completely different game from what we had done on Friday. We started very well against Portugal and that helped that we have scored two goals in five minutes.
“We are aware that Spain is different, it is the highest level that we can imagine, so we must have a good start. We are going there to have the best performances and do another step in our style of play, our development and a good match plan.”
England must beat Spain – currently at the top of the A3 group – to finish first and reach the final of the League of Nations, to play in October and November.
“The League of Nations is such a difficult competition,” said Bronze. “Throughout the season, different teams are in a different form, the missing players at different times.
“We were disappointed with the first edition. It made us fall into this second seeded, which was so difficult to come back because it is really competitive.
“It’s one of our goal [to win the Nations League]It is another chance of silverware, it’s a story and as players, you always want to raise trophies and it is another opportunity to do so.
“We have already beaten Spain this year. We gain a lot of confidence. Our players behave well. This performance in Spain at Wembley was fantastic from us, both defensively and attacking. You have to gain confidence in each game, whether it be losses and prints.
“It’s not all and final tomorrow. It is for us in the League of Nations, but in terms of euros, it is a different tournament.
“All we can do is focus on the group in front of us, a very difficult group but an exciting group. It will give us confidence, but we get this of ourselves and others.”
Bronze: I was one of the first people to retire
A week ago, Mary Earps announced her international shock retirement just five weeks before euros.
Bronze said: “I think I was the first person she called. I was probably in the current before everyone, just because we have such a good link and a connection. You think of players who know what it means to play for England and Mary was at the top. His career for England was fantastic.
“The news was difficult to take as teammates because we all like Mary, we all want it to be here. But as ani, we all accept her decision and celebrate her and everything she did for this team.
“Then we just have to wait forward. We have fantastic guards here and Mary left a legacy which means that they are all in an excellent position, they are all prepared because they had an excellent mentor to learn.
“I hope that the goalkeepers we have now can live in this energy and take advantage of the fact that they have worked alongside such a great professional, and they can also bring this to the team.”
Bronze also said that she was in contact with the Chelsea Millie Bright teammate, who withdrew from the Nations League Games to give herself a physical and mental break from football.
She said: “Millie is a very great personality and a player for England and for Chelsea. She missed in terms of what she brings both on the field, she is one of the leaders of the team, not only because she is the oldest, but because of her experience, her attributes as a person.
“We all talked to Millie throughout the week, we are all friends with her and we offered her support. We want to make sure that she is going well. Physically and mentally, it was a difficult season for everyone, but having spent Millie every day, it is someone who is quite difficult and maybe there is a lot.
“From a friend’s point of view, I just want her to go well and give her as long as she needs to feel good again.”
